Sudden Impact Finally Bring Home Gold at the COMPOUND

Sudden Impact Finally Bring Home Gold at the COMPOUND

Posted: Sep 19th 2007 By: CMBurnham

Sometimes it takes just a little longer to achieve the good things in life. And it took Sudden Impact 9 months to finally claim the ComPro Tag Team Titles from Texas, Inc. Since ComPro restarted weekly shows, it seemed like obstacle after obstacle was thrown in the way of the masked stars, but September 15th at the 1st ComPro Night of Champions, Sudden Impact finally gained a victory over their nemeses.

Sudden Impact seemed to have a minor string of bad luck since targeting Texas, Inc. They were defeated in singles matched by Tim Rockwell and Bernard Funk. Then, the following week, they lost to Texas, Inc. by DQ when Stevie Caballero threw the cowbell into the ring, but missed Bernard Funk. One of the Impact twins grabbed it, but Bernard quickly pulled an "Eddie Guerrero" and fell down to the mat, leaving referee Mike Two to turn around and see the masked man holding a foreign object and and "unconscious" Funk. ComPro commissioner Kitty decreed that the following week, Texas, Inc. would again defend their belts against Sudden Impact in a Lumberjack Match. The idea here was that Funk and Rockwell would not be able to escape or loiter outside the ring and that Stevie Caballero's presence would be diminished since he would have lots of wrestlers, all bigger than him, watching his moves.

What Kitty seemed to have overlooked were the issues between the wrestlers outside the ring and while it seemed that things were going the way of the masked twins, eventually all the wrestlers poured into the ring and began to fight each other, rather than monitor the events of the tag team title match. Even Kitty agreed that this experiment hadn't turned out the way she wanted it to, so she ordered a rematch for the Tag Team titles, but this time she ordered that EVERYONE would be banned from ringside. Stevie Caballero quickly pointed out that he is a licensed manager and it was illegal for her to ban him. She agreed and decided that he would stay at ringside...where he would be handcuffed to the ropes. An outraged Caballero protested, but to no avail and Sudden Impact sensed that this might be the last chance they had at grabbing those tag team belts.

When the Night of Champions arrived, both teams were prepared. Texas, Inc. had warmed up the night before by defeating the team of Kunna Keyoh & Bundy in Ardmore at the UWF06 show. And both had competed in the UWF Rumble, but were eliminated fairly early. That may have taken it's toll on them, but they looked rested and ready, although Stevie was not happy about the handcuffs. Locked into place, it seemed he could only watch and hope that his men could somehow walk out with those belts. But even though he had one hand bound to the ropes, the other was still free and the unofficial "fourth" member of Texas, Inc., their cowbell, was thrown into the ring once again. Again, Stevie overshot Funk. Again, the bell ended up in the masked man's hands. And again, Funk thought to pull a fast one for the DQ and walk away with those belts. But this time, when Funk "passed out", Sudden Impact hit a tremendous double team move on the prone veteran and, with Caballero unable to enter the ring, the referee counted 3 and the belts left the state of Texas!

Sudden Impact are the first masked tag team champions in Oklahoma since the Casualties of War held the OPW Oklahoma Tag Team Titles back in 2001. Although Sudden Impact 1 has held the TPW Tag Team Titles 4 times as part of Sexy Bologna, this is the first time the (alleged) twin brothers have held a title together.

The loss of the ComPro Tag Team Titles leaves Texas, Inc. with only 1 title: the SWCW Tag Team Titles. They will be defending those on September 29 against Trailer Park Trash and it is possible that when that night is over, Texas, Inc. could walk out of a wrestling arena with no gold for the first time in almost 10 months.

With Sudden Impact now holding the gold, who will be lining up to challenge them? It's probably a given that Stevie Caballero negotiated a return match clause in the contract. But there are other teams waiting in the wings. ICF already grabbed one piece of gold when Shane Morbid defeated FCW Tag Team Champion Justin Lee for the ComPro Okahoma X Division Title. But Boss Campbell would certainly welcome a tag team title for Morbid & Cold Blooded Chris. The Compound Varsity may be interested in being dual champions. Trailer Park Trash has show interest in coming up to ComPro and competing. And this week, in the crowd, Beau Dalton & SWCW Sooner Xtreme Champion Luc Lapointe, along with Ray Martinez, were spotted. Might a contingent of the P.I.N.K. Nation be returning to Tulsa to challenge for the gold? Oklafan will keep fans everywhere posted on these developments.
