The HBO Andre the Giant documentary is now up on the WWE Network. It's definitely a very entertaining doc even with the flaws and work mode and some people used for history that had no idea of the history they were talking about. It's a great look at Andre and there's a lot of info on his life that has never been released previously.
The June 7 show in Saudi Arabia will be titled Super ShowDown, a similar name that WWE used for their October pay-per-view in Australia. WWE also announced that the event will feature The Undertaker vs Goldberg and Randy Orton vs Triple H along with a 50-man battle royal. This will be the first time that The Undertaker and Goldberg have wrestled each other. WWE Super ShowDown will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah and it will be available live on the WWE Network and on traditional pay-per-view.
John Morrison is doing a Q&A on 6/27 in Melbourne before his matches in Melbourne on 6/28 and Sydney in 6/29 for BCW.
Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch have finally publicly admitted that they are dating each other.. The whole thing came up after Becky took a shot at Edge on Twitter and his wife, Beth Phoenix, jumped in and wrote, "Wait wait...are we involving our men now...?" Lynch replied, "I’ll ask him... @WWERollins?" Rollins then posted on his Instagram a photo of the two kissing backstage at WrestleMania with the words, "I guess I’m allowed to post this now....@beckylynchwwe?" Rumors started to spread during WrestleMania week that they're an item. Both of them attended NXT Takeover: New York together and were sitting side-by-side at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Mike Johnson at PW Insider reported that Killer Kross has asked for his release from Impact. There is considerable interest outside Impact in Kross. Johnson reported Kross asked for six figures to stay but was turned down. The report said Impact offered him a new contract for three-years for less than six figures, giving him a guarantee instead of a per date contract. Kross turned down the offer and asked for his release. The company turned down the request noting he's under contract for several more years
WWE Network News reported that three matches featuring Andre the Giant will be added to the WWE Network’s Hidden Gems section Thursday, which comes after HBO’s documentary on Andre was uploaded to the Network. The matches are Andre vs. Jerry Blackwell in a Bodyslam Challenge match (AWA, 1980), Andre & Hulk Hogan vs. Bobby Heenan, Nick Bockwinkel, Ken Patera & Bobby Duncum in a handicap match (AWA, 1982), and Andre vs. Big John Studd (WWF, 1984).
The NXT Tag Team titles have been vacated by The Viking Raiders and a decision on the future of the titles will be made on next week’s episode of NXT by General Manager William Regal on the WWE Network. The Viking Raiders, who up until yesterday were champions, appeared on NXT and decided that no other team would be able to beat them so they were ready to surrender the titles and concentrate solely on their Raw journey. The Street Profits did not agree to that statement and wanted a title shot for later in the evening. The match though ended in a disqualification after The Forgotten Sons interfered and then Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan also joined in on the fun for a wild brawl. At the end of the episode, The Viking Raiders were left standing, still holding their tag team titles. The Viking Raiders moved to Monday Night Raw during the Superstar Shake-Up, first debuting as The Viking Experience before changing to The Viking Raiders. They won the NXT Tag Team titles at NXT Takeover: Phoenix in January from The Undisputed Era.
The wrestling world is in mourning today after Ashley Massaro, the former WWE Diva Search contest winner, passed away Thursday in New York. Through its website and social media properties, WWE issued a statement saying, "We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro. She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends." All Elite Wrestling also put out a small statement reading, "We are saddened to learn Ashley Massaro has passed away at the age of 39. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.." Massaro was supposed to be part of the Starrcast II event which takes place during the Double or Nothing pay-per-view weekend next week. While the cause of death has not been revealed, a tweet from Torrie Wilson might suggest something as Wilson urged people that when they fall into a dark place with no end in sight, they should keep hope and reach out for help. Wilson called Massaro "legit one of the sweetest people" she's ever known and couldn't even begin to explain how devastated she was. Some of Ashley's former co-workers also paid tribute to her on Twitter." I have no words. Ashley was my tag partner at WrestleMania. My sometimes road wife," wrote Maria Kanellis. "We did countless photo shoots and press days together. It seems like yesterday Ashley was a major part of my life and then our worlds changed and now she is gone. I'm heartbroken for her family." Lisa Marie Varon, the artist formerly known as Victoria in WWE, also wrote that she's sad for the loss of her good friend and that she would be greatly missed. "Words cannot express my sadness for the loss of Ashley Massaro," tweeted Layla El. "Ashley took me under her wing an was so sweet to me. I have very fond memories that I will treasure. Too young to be gone." Trish Stratus, who was also in WWE when Massaro was around, wrote, "Darling, my heart hurts so much with this news. I remember being off with an injury and watching this beautiful, charismatic, athletic girl crowned Diva Search winner." Trish recounted how she was her first suplex and stood by her as she took her first steps of her wrestling career. "I'm having a hard time processing this news of my friend, a fellow worker, a fellow mom. I'm both sad and mad..." "This is just awful news - Ashley Massaro is gone," fellow New Yorker Mick Foley wrote. "She was only 39. She lived in the same town as me...I loved seeing her around. She was always so nice...and now she’s gone." Other former Superstars such as Michelle McCool, Maryse, and many others also posted on social media about her death.
Ric Flair's wife Wendy Barlow has said that the planned surgery that her husband Ric Flair was scheduled to have Friday morning has been postponed until Monday "to address some complications that needed to be taken care of first." Last night, Barlow issued a statement saying that Ric would be undergoing a procedure this morning after he was hospitalized yesterday. “Due to ongoing health complications, Ric was taken to the hospital and is expected to undergo a procedure tomorrow morning, after which he expects to fully recover,” her statement read. But that has now changed and the two-time WWE Hall of Famer will remain in hospital for the weekend. His son-in-law and AEW/Starrcast’s Conrad Thompson Thursday wrote that the procedure was pre-scheduled and it was nothing serious at all, contradicting other reports which said that it was serious when Flair was rushed to the hospital. Last time Flair was hospitalized, his management company issued a statement saying it was nothing serious too but Flair ended being on his death bed for 11 days. The company, Legacy Talent LLC, was later dropped from representing him. Ric will be the headline act at Starrcast next weekend where he will be roasted by his friends although with this change of plans it remains to be seen if Flair will be available to travel to Las Vegas for the show.
