Unstoppable Draven Finds New Challenge In Sam Stackhouse
Posted: Jul 17th 2018 By: Michael Hunt
He’s big. He’s powerful. He’s monstrous. And it seems like he is on a path to whatever he wants.
Call him Killer Cross. Call him simply Draven. Whichever moniker he uses, understand that his intentions are always the same: Destruction.
Draven spent much of 2017 content to be in the background. As a member of both V.A.N.G.O.H. and Mr. Durden’s Pandemonium Sideshow, Draven mostly competed in tag team matches and had something of a mixed bag of success. The wars between the Sideshow and the Space Age Heroes are certainly something legendary in WFC while the actions of Draven and Korvin Sage have helped Xavior become (and remain) MSWA Mid-South Champion. Draven seemed happy with that role then, but now, appears to want more.
Since the beginning of 2018, Draven has been on a path of destruction through WFC. As the most consistently active member of the Sideshow, Draven began to make statements be plowing through other WFC roster members such as Tristan Thorne, Tommy Dean and both members of Los Combatientes Machos. No one was exceptionally surprised at his victory in these matches as all those competitors had considerably less experience than Draven. But the sheer one-sidedness of those batters was something devestating to behold.
Things took a step up for Draven in terms of competition in April when he face O’Brien. O’Brien was the first person who could match Draven power-for-power and was also very familiar with Draven, having competed in feds such as SWCW and MSWA together. O’Brien became the first person to get Draven off his feet, but sadly that was not enough to bring him victory in the match. Nonetheless, Draven understood that things weren’t going to be as much of a cake walk as they had been in the past.
In May, Draven found himself against another man with size and power on his side: The “Everyday Man” J. D. Though not as experienced as O’Brien, J. D. still pushed Draven hard, forcing him to work outside his comfort zone and draw on 15 years of experience. Again, Draven pulled out the victory, but it was not easy for him.
June saw the return of current ASP Mid-American Champion The Canadian Red Devil to WFC. With approximately the same amount of experience and with plenty of knowledge of each other from their days in MSWA and ComPro, CRD brought a game plan in that severely challenged Draven. Never one to try to match power with most wrestlers, CRD utilised a stick-and-move offence, combined with attempts to isloate and wear down body parts. This plan actually caused Draven to work against himself as CRD’s quickness kept him out of harm’s way and caused Draven to injure himself on turnbuckles. And this paid off, as CRD appeared on the verge of handing Draven his first loss in singles competition in WFC...until Matt Durden made his surprise return! Durden had been absent since the Sideshow had lost their big 8-Man tag team match to the Space Age Heroes, but he knew just when to show up here, causing a distraction and allowing Draven enough time to recover and put The Anti-Hero down and out.
Draven certainly seemed to be feeling confident about himself when he stepped through the curtain against Dexter Hardaway this past Saturday. Dexter had no announced opponent and still had not found a tag team partner to compete against the Villains for the WFC Tag Team Titles, but the Villains still had plans for him and ordered this 1-on-1 match. Hardaway brought more experience than any other opponent Draven had faced, but still had to deal with a serious size disadvantage. Still, motivated by the taunts of the Villains from last month as well as prior to the match, Dexter gave it his all. Sadly, it was not enough and Draven notched another victory in his belt. But that was not enough for “The Annhilator” this particular night.
Later that night, BCW Buzzsaw Champion Sam Stackhouse found himself in a match set up by The Villains against Malico. Stackhouse had managed to overcome the unpredictable tactics of the wicked clown when, for unknown reasons, Draven appeared at ringside and drew the attention of the big competitor. This allowed Malico pick up a controversial win.
That night’s main event was the annual Rumble For A Cause, where the winner faces the WFC Champion at the Anniversary show in September. Obviously the stakes were high for everyone involved and the later wrestlers entered, the better chance they had. Draven came in early at #8 and became a huge roadblock to anyone who came in after him. For a while, it seemed like he was content to just punish people, but eventually, the bodies started flying. Draven eliminated Gemini Red, then tossed out the Canadian Red Devil. And then Sam Stackhouse entered the ring at #19. Though not immediately going face-to-face, the inevitable showdown between the two came after about 4 more men entered. As the two men went after each other, all the other competitors tried to split them apart, but to no avail as both Draven and Sa shrugged each other off. Tommy Dean then entered the Rumble, but Draven just shoved him to the side like he was barely there and went back to focusing on Sam. Both men then muscled each other over the top rop to the apron and kicked each others’ legs out from under them, causing them both to be eliminated from the match.
Draven has said the whole time that he wants competition. Even the novelty of competing under Pandemonium Rules (which, essentially, makes the match a Hardcore Match) has worn thin. Draven is looking for someone in WFC to challenge him on his level. And it appears he may have found that someone in the form of Sam Stackhouse. Stackhouse needs to be aware that Draven always has the Sideshow lurking somewhere. And Draven needs to remember that sometimes you get exactly what you ask for.
