Amid protests from sponsors and fans, WWE has removed The Fabulous Moolah's name from the scheduled Women's Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34. The name was changed to "WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal" according to a tweet sent out by WWE on March 15th. The main complaint came from Mars Wrigley Confectionery US, the parent company of the Snickers brand, who is the main sponsor of WrestleMania 34.
Regarding WWE dropping the Fabulous Moolah name from the Battle Royal, a key to this happening was Snickers getting complaints from wrestling fans. Before WWE made the decision, Snickers, a sponsor of WrestleMania, wrote, "We were recently made aware of the World Wrestling Federation Inc's decision to honor a former wrestler during the upcoming WrestleMania 34 event. As a principle-based business that has long championed creating inclusive environments that encourage and empower everyone to reach their full potential, this is unacceptable. We are engaging with WWE to express our disappointment."
It was not just the fans who were angry about the use of The Fabulous Moolah’s name being attached to the women’s battle royal at WrestleMania, but it turns out that WrestleMania’s main sponsor, Snickers, also piled pressure on WWE to disassociate themselves from the name. “We were recently made aware of the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc’s (WWE) decision to honor a former wrestler during the upcoming WrestleMania 34 event,” a statement from Snickers read. “As a principle-based business that has long championed creating inclusive environments that encourage and empower everyone to reach their full potential, this is unacceptable. We are engaging with the WWE to express our disappointment.” Yesterday, after much bad press and fan backlash, WWE did a complete 180 and decided to remove Moolah’s name from the match, renaming it to simply WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal. Following WWE’s decision to rename the battle royal, Snickers sent out another statement, saying that they are pleased that WWE has decided to change the name.
Talent has been very quiet on the Fabulous Moolah subject and Stephanie McMahon spoke for the company on Twitter saying that they are listening to their fans and there will still be a historical women's Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34.
Filmmaker Jonny Bravo released his much-anticipated WFN documentary titled “The Evidence of WFN & The Story Behind The Distribution” yesterday on his YouTube channel. Most of the alleged evidence comes from the laptop of Richard Rodriguez, the kingpin of the Wellness Fitness and Nutrition steroid ring. Bravo acquired the laptop after it was released in a court proceeding and was last used by WFN in February of 2016. More laptops and phones are still in DEA possession and those have information up until February 2017. Bravo has alluded that many WWE Superstars, both past and present, have been clients of Richard Rodriguez. During the run-up to the release, Bravo specifically targeted Roman Reigns. Bodybuilder Chris Bell was the one who, in the documentary, Rodriguez reveals as the guy who linked him up to WWE Superstars, including Reigns, John Cena, and Steve Austin. At this point, a bunch of text messages between Bell and Rodriguez come on screen, with one particular message sticking out reading, “Also, did you get a chance to speak with The Rock and John Cena?” The message was sent by Rodriguez to Bell on January 28, 2016 at 6:04am. That was the last text message on this device as from there onwards, all other communications are on the other phones and computers still locked up with the DEA. Bell is the director of a 2008 documentary titled "Bigger, Stronger, Faster", which details the use of anabolic steroids as performance-enhancing drugs in the United States.. Rodriguez says that apart from Bell, Rick Bassman also introduced him to several stars, including Brock Lesnar. Chris Cavallini, a trainer, also ordered several steroids and in the documentary he’s shown being friends with Sheamus and Jinder Mahal. Mahal credited Cavallini with his body transformation ever since he has returned to WWE in an episode of the "Talk is Jericho" podcast. Another individual, Jesse Burdick, ordered $40,000 worth of steroids from WFN. Burdick is pictured in the documentary alongside with John Cena and Bobby Lashley, alluding that he bought these steroids for his friends. Daniel Puder, the former Tough Enough winner is also a client and former employee of WFN. Puder was getting commission from selling steroids to famous athletes and MMA fighters and drew up a contract, published in this documentary, that he wanted with WFN to get commission. Tony Morris, a celebrity trainer which the movie "Magic Mike" was also inspired by, allegedly ordered steroids for Kevin Nash and other stars of the movie to get in shape for the movie, Rodriguez added. Actor Josh Duhamel, who denied being involved, is exposed as ordering under his real name and address and his text messages to Rodriguez are displayed. Towards the end of the documentary, Bravo, while speaking over the phone to Rodriguez, says that for now, he can’t really implicate actor Mark Wahlberg and WWE Superstar Roman Reigns, because the rest of the information are in the iPhones, iPads, and laptop that the DEA still have in their possession. Bravo claims that the two used aliases and addresses not registered in their name and the information on the other devices are required to connect all the dots as at this point it makes cross referencing impossible. “Even though contact information of Leati Joseph Anoa’i (AKA Roman Reigns) & orders that Richard says are his were found on the laptop, without the direct text communications between them, they cannot be verified until their (sic) received,” a statement in the documentary says. At the end of the day, all evidence in this documentary are circumstantial at best and links no WWE Superstar directly to the WFN steroid business unlike what Bravo said in the past. No direct proof was ever presented that Reigns, Cena, Lesnar, or any other WWE Superstar were clients of WFN. You can see the documentary by clicking here..
