What Evil Lurks In the Shadow of Death?

What Evil Lurks In the Shadow of Death?

Posted: Aug 15th 2007 By: CMBurnham

He's one of the most enigmatic figures to set foot in an Oklahoma wrestling ring. Size-wise, he's a light heavyweight, but in the ring, he'll gladly stand up to the superheavyweights and never back down. He seems to enjoy being bashed in the head repeatedly with large heavy objects. And he never speaks, save for growling at his opponent. He's the Shadow of Death. And this last Saturday, he returned to ComPro, silently making his presence felt at ringside. But what did he really want?

SOD walked out during the match between El Super Colibri and The Canadian Luchadore. Neither man took much notice of him and he didn't do anything except take a chair and sit on the opposite side of the ring from ComPro ring announcer and commissioner Kitty. After Colibri won the match with a frogsplash and he and the Luchadore had left the ring area, SOD quietly stood, picked up his chair and left as well.

SOD returned during the match between Rico Suave and FCW Champion The Canadian Red Devil. Again, no interference. No distraction. He simply waited at ringside, silently observing the action. The Devil won after giving Rico the Faceplant From Hell. Rico stumbled to the back. SOD got up and collected his chair as the Devil was exiting. The Devil was momentarily distracted when he realised he almost forgot the purloined Compound Varisty Jacket that he stole from Rocco Valentino. After removing it from the ringpost, the Devil turned around and was met face-to-face with SOD. This seemed to shock the Devil slightly, but there was no confrontation and both men left the area peacefully.

SOD has not been a regular in-ring competitor for almost 2 years. In 2006, he behaved in a similar manner, coming out to ringside and seeming to exert some sort of mind-control over Rancid in a mini-feud with Michael York, during the last days of TPW. But Rancid quickly departed TPW and SOD moved on, brining in the tag team of Apocalypse. This seemed like a natural fit for SOD, as 3rd Rail & Draven Cross were both monsters of one sort while SOD was a monster of a different kind. That partnership was cut short when TPW shut down after May 13, 2006. SOD was only seen one other time, accompanying members of the P.I.N.K. Nation against the Compound Varsity, a move that did not seem to match that of SOD's mindset.

Since the Shadow of Death is not one to speak his mind, it's difficult to guess exactly what his motivation is in observing the matches he did. Is he scouting for another protege? Is he scouting opponents for a possible return to the ring? SOD certainly classifies as an X Division competitor. Or perhaps there's something even more sinister lurking in the mind of this silent warrior. Hopefully, answers will be revealed soon, as many fans want to know just how safe it is outside the ring with this madman.
