Did The Devil Sell His Soul To Richard Pierce?
Posted: Sep 2nd 2016 By: Michael Hunt
Titles, money and fame will cause people to do crazy things. Betray their friends. Lie to their family. Assume completely different identities.
But it seems that now, selling your soul for success can be added to that list.
For months, the competition between Richie Adams and The Canadian Red Devil has been building. Since winning the 2016 Oklahoma Stampede, CRD has been doing everything he can to ensure that he got his opportunity to become a 4-time ComPro Champion. At one point, this meant interfering in matches involving Adams, with Adams returning the favour. But after ComPro Co-Commissioner C. M. Burnham put a stop to that, CRD had to find more creative ways to ensure that his match with Richie still happened.
A couple of weeks before the Tenth Anniversary event, CRD confronted Burnham in the ring and reminded him that back in May, he had saved Burnham from an attack by Lockdown. As a result of that, Burnham had stated that he owed CRD a favour and now it was time for CRD to cash in. That favour was a simple request: He wanted a clear winner in the match, so he requested that the match be No DQ, No Countout, and there HAD to be a winner. Burnham found no problem with that and granted the request, but made it clear that no matter who the winner was, he wanted the issue between the two men ended. No continued interference. No verbal squabbles. There would be a winner and a loser and both men would then move on.
CRD agreed and it appeared everything was headed down the right path.
But when CRD came through the curtain for the Tenth Anniversary event, fans probably should have suspected something. While new gear is not uncommon to debut at big events of this nature, CRD had a brand new mask. And it was Black. Completely black. Except for red horns. Not exactly something that seemed to fit a man who was known as the Canadian RED Devil.
Wardrobe aside, the match was as intense as people expected it to be. Adams was solidly into the sixth month of his reign and wanted to carry on his legacy, hoping to become the longest ComPro Champion of all time. With himself and CRD as the only 3-time ComPro Champions, CRD knew that this would be a record setting 4th title reign if he were able to get the pin.
But no one expected that, after almost 10 minutes of action, music would play and Richard Pierce would make his return down the aisle. Pierce had been absent for several months and the membership of Pierce, Inc. had all gone different ways, so everyone just assumed that he had moved on to other ventures. But when CRD locked on the sharpshooter, Pierce suddenly appeared from the back. Longtime ComPro fans immediately wondered whether Pierce had realigned himself with Adams as it was that pairing that led to Jake O'Brien taking the ComPro Title from CRD two years ago. But when Pierce made it to ringside, it was quickly clear that he was not talking to Richie, he was talking to CRD!
The presence of Pierce provided an obvious distraction to Adams and with his focus set on Pierce, CRD took advantage of that and low-blowed the champion from behind. That only got him a two-count and Pierce then grabbed a chair and wound up to crack the skull of Richie. But Pierce swung and missed and both CRD and Adams found themselves staring at the lights after connecting with a double clothesline.
As both men began to fight up, Pierce found an opportunity to insert himself into the situation again and clobbered Adams in the back with the chair. CRD swiftly pinned Adams, but again, referee Steve Shotzman only made it to 2 before the champion kicked out. And this seems to be the moment where CRD snapped as he grabbed the chair from Pierce and yelled at Adams "Why don't you stay down??" Then, viciousness like never seen before from the masked Canadian emerged as he beat Adams with the chair repeatedly.
And even after absorbing all that punishment, Adams somehow found the strength to make it back to his feet and to make it clear to CRD that he would never quit. That he would never submit. That CRD would have to kill him to take the title away.
And that is just what happened, as CRD swung the chair and connected with the head of Adams, knocking him out and allowing CRD to make the pin.
So now, as ComPro enters its second decade of existence, two men who once held so much animosity towards each other are aligned and at the top of the company. But rumour has it that it all may come crashing down quickly as ComPro management is VERY upset at the actions CRD took in the match and may end his fourth title reign before it really gets underway.
That issue looks to be addressed on September 9th. But with or without the title, Pierce has dug his talons deeply into the heart of CRD. A heart that is now just as black as the mask adorning his face.
