JR's Blog: NEW JR'S BLOG,NXT DELIVERS, WWE & UFC Tag Team, Brock the Underdog, The Ross Report Podcast!
Posted: Jun 10th 2016 By: Jim Ross
Greetings from scorching Las Vegas where we are preparing to broadcast CBS Sports Network boxing LIVE Friday night from the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center under the stars highlighted by a potentially exciting card. Check your local listings and join us. The prelim fights will air on the FITE TV App worldwide. Join @SeanWheelock & me on the call.
Great deal of talk in Vegas that Mark Hunt will KO Brock Lesnar early in their fight at the much anticipated UFC 200 in July. This is arguably one of the most challenging bookings that Brock could have gotten for his return to the Octagon for what is expected to be a one off for Lesnar in the UFC.
Brock us the betting underdog at all the Vegas sports books that I've seen. I'm thinking a couple of dollars on Brock to win might be in my future. I'm certainly pulling on one of the greatest athletes that we signed while I was EVP of Talent in WWE.
As my friend Barry Switzer has said one recruits their "players" for life of which I agree.
It's no secret that WWE & many of their fans would be highly interested in securing the services of @RondaRousey for WM33. Ronda's MMA future in UFC isn't set in stone, or so it seems at the moment, as she has no future fight on the schedule even though she would be a huge addition to UFC's first NYC event in perhaps a rematch vs Holly Holm. This matter regarding Rousey to WM33 will produce ample speculation as time marches on.
Many feel that Vince McMahon and Dana White created a win-win deal when WWE cleared the way for Lesnar to fight at UFC 200. The potential inclusion of Rousey at WM33 would certainly be a prime win-win for both companies
Caught the WWE NXT TAKEOVER TV special on the WWE Network and it was a compelling & entertaining pro wrestling, TV show. Smart, logical booking, believable in ring action, crisp execution and excellent TV production.
Presenting pro wrestling isn't a complex matter as some may think and when the necessary and essential elements are in place it can be such a joy to watch.
Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor was a timeless, classic wrestling match. Both men are a credit to our business
Enjoyed the work of Tom Phillips and Cory Graves as the 2 man announce booth feels less busy and more efficient than most 3 man pairings. Proud of the work Tom & Cory did in focusing in the action and diligently trying to get the talents over.
NXT has done a notable job making their tag team scene have significant meaning. American Alpha & The Revival reminded me why I'm still a fan of tag team wrestling.
Loved Nakamura vs Aries on many levels as it was one of the best TV matches on WWE TV in recent memory.
Hats off to Asuka & the much improved Nia Jax. I got caught up in their physicality. No reason that women's bouts can't be physically intense.
Enjoyed talking to former WWE creative team member Chris DeJoseph who's the Co Executive Producer of Lucha Underground on this week's The Ross Report podcast. I hope that you'll listen to it at podcast one.com, iTunes, and here in our homepage.
Tickets for the OklaMania event in OKC on Sunday July 17 are selling briskly at ticketmaster.com
Enjoy your day!
