Steve Austin was not impressed with recent Ric Flair, Charlotte segment

For much of Charlotte's time on the WWE main roster and, indeed, as the Women's champion, she has been somewhat overshadowed by the actions of her Hall of Fame father, Ric Flair.

Although WWE fans had some time ago grown tired of seeing the 30-year-old overshadowed by The Nature Boy, it was only on the May 23 edition of Monday Night RAW that the WWE hierarchy attempted to set the Women's champ free in a segment that saw her effectively disown her dad.

While the segment may have been needed, one man who was less than impressed with how it played out, and Ric Flair's role in it, was fellow WWE legend, Stone Cold Steve Austin. Speaking on the most recent episode of his podcast, the Texas Rattlesnake labeled it as "real bad".

As reported by Wrestling Inc., the former Superstar explained his disappointment to 'The Steve Austin Show' listeners:

"[Ric Flair] spilled the beans as soon as he went out there. He had only been talking 10 to 15 seconds and I said, 'oh, he's getting fired or she's going to kick him out of the damn ring' and that's exactly what happened."

He went on to lament the fact that Charlotte effectively got lost in the promo, before criticising the decision to have someone write the script for Flair as well as the 15-time World Champion's delivery:

"But that was just a real bad [segment] and that thing, Ric kind of spilled the beans. Whoever wrote that, and you know Ric is one of the best promos in the history of the [professional wrestling] business and you don't need to be writing [anything] for Ric Flair.

"Just let him go out there and do his thing. But, so he's going out there and he's trying to memorize this script that someone wrote him and he spilled the beans, started tripping all over himself, and then, it only got worse from there.

"And then, Charlotte's trying to recoup and she gets lost a couple of times and goes at the crowd and then kind of misspeaks and then it was extremely awkward and it was hard to watch because I'm such a fan of the Flairs."

The segment, which you can watch again for yourself here, does look kind of awkward in hindsight - especially Flair's opening piece on the mic where he stumbles on a couple of words.

For a man heralded as one of the greatest on the mic in the organisation's history, it isn't great to see the 67-year-old struggle.

However, with Charlotte giving her father his marching orders, it is likely that we see less and less of The Nature Boy on WWE TV moving forward as the company finally lets Charlotte walk on her own two feet.
