New Canada Implodes!
Posted: Jan 15th 2006 By: oklastaff
Since the beginning of TPW?s existence, one of the constants was the faction of New Canada. But all that came to a screeching end Saturday, January 14, as New Canada split in half and one half demolished the other.
Oklafan broke the story about the dispute in the TPW Oklahoma Title match between champion Romero Contreras, the Canadian Luchadore and AWOL. This resulted in TPW commissioner Kitty making a match between Romero and the Luchadore for January 14. New Canada arrived as a unit, despite the previous weeks of minor conflict, and TPW Champion Jon Davis announced that the entire faction was behind the Luchadore?s quest to bring the Oklahoma Title back to New Canada. But less than a minute into the match, things began to go wrong. The Luchadore had Romero down and turned to Davis to ask for the brass knucks he carries in his pockets. Davis was reluctant to give them to the Luchadore and TPW Light Heavyweight Champion The Canadian Red Devil also seemed to want to prevent Davis from handing over the knucks. AWOL was beligerent and demanded that Davis give the Luchadore the knucks. All this resulted in Romero recovering, hitting the Luchadore with a forearm and retaining the title.
Afterwards, AWOL and the Luchadore attacked Jon Davis and The Canadian Red Devil, completely annhilating them in the ring until Romero returned to the ring with a chair to make the save.
The beginnings of New Canada can be traced back to the end of OCW, when Jon Davis, then head referee, made an alliance with Nothern Threat, Dexter Hardaway & Luc Lapointe. When OCW shut down, Davis moved to TPW, where he remained a referee but also began to manage the Canadian Luchadore. Davis was eventually fired from his referee position and became a full time manager, adding AWOL to the New Canada stable. Halfway through 2003, The Canadian Luchadore left TPW for SRPW, but Davis & AWOL soldiered on. Davis guided AWOL to the TPW Oklahoma Title and captured the TPW title for himself. In May 2004, Davis & AWOL captured the TPW Tag Team Title from Sexy Bologna, beginning the longest single championship reign of any tag team in Oklahoma history. That summer saw the return of the Luchadore to TPW. And in May, 2005, the Canadian Red Devil was added to the group. While Davis & AWOL would be stripped of their tag team titles and lose the rematch for them to the Forsaken, Davis would go on to reclaim the TPW Title and the Devil would win the Light Heavyweight Title, leaving the Luchadore the only member of New Canada never to hold a title in TPW.
TPW commissioner announced that a tag team match had been set up for January 21, pitting Jon Davis & the Canadian Red Devil against the Canadian Luchadore & AWOL.
