When a Kiss Is More than a Kiss At an Old Fashioned Texas Brawl.

When a Kiss Is More than a Kiss At an Old Fashioned Texas Brawl.

Posted: Mar 28th 2016 By: Ebenezer B Fitzdylan

Two kisses ? one imparting energy and fan power, the other delivering an unwanted distraction ? played pivotal roles in last Friday's (March 18) entertaining match between APOC The Apocalyptic Menace and Houston Carson in Sherman, Texas.

Defending his NWA Texoma Texas Heavyweight Championship before a full house at the Elks Lodge, APOC called upon superfan Sandra Whatley Dyer for inspiration ? smack dab in the middle of the match ? and she didn't let him down.

On the other side of the divide, Houston Carson got an unwelcome kiss from his comely valet, throwing The Texas Lion so far off his game that he never quite recovered. Truth be told, Valet Christi Jaynes proved to be more of a liability than an asset.
?Got under His Skin?

Here's how APOC tells it:

?At the start of the match, I noticed he had a very attractive valet with him. Right out of the gate, he ducked my lockup and goes over and gets a kiss. I did the only thing that seemed to be rational to me, and that was to roll out of the ring and get a kiss from one of my greatest fans in Sherman. I think that got under his skin a little bit. He seemed to be thrown off by that kiss.?

Not the Only Heartthrob

We don't want to dwell on the kisses ? OK, we do! ? but we had to ask APOC if the sisterly kiss from Mrs. Dyer made a real difference in the outcome. ?Other than rubbing it in Carson's face with the news that he's not the only one who can get a little bit of affection from a girl, the kiss fired me up,? APOC said. ?Mind you, I'm not looking for romantic affection ? I don't know if he was or wasn't as far as his valet was concerned ? but I just wanted to show Houston Carson that he wasn't the only heartthrob in the building that night.?

Enough of kisses ? there was a championship at stake. (OK, one last word ? we mean it! Reliable sources tell us that Mr. Carson was not the least bit happy when Miss Jaynes planted the smooch on him for all to see. The Texas Lion made that fact perfectly clear after the match.)
Speaking Frankly

In the ring, the action was hard-hitting and furious. Both men were determined to stake their claim to primacy on one of the premier pro wrestling stages in Texas. APOC admitted he was eager for the challenge, but he was also frank enough to tell The Tribune that his foe appeared to be favoring a tender right knee.

?They call Carson The Texas Lion for good reason,? APOC said. ?He's literally one of the alpha guys in Texas right now and has developed a pretty solid reputation over the last couple of years. But it appeared to me that he was not 100 per cent. He seemed to be favoring his right leg a little bit. I don't know what was going on, but I'm pretty sure he didn't get hurt in our match. It must have been a pre-existing condition of some kind.?

?A Man Test?

Some pros might have welcomed the advantage afforded by an opponent's injury, but not APOC. ?For me it was kind of a man test," he said. "I wanted to go in there and just stand toe-to-toe with him and see what he had.?

After the first lock-up, the foes engaged in an episode of chain wrestling ? arm bars, wrist locks, head locks, reverses. ?I came out on top every time, proving to me that I'm the better king of the ring,? The Apocalyptic Menace said. ?But every time I'd come out on top, Carson would get to the ropes and force the break. You gotta give him credit. He knows how to work the system, knows the rules, and knows how to break 'em.?

You'll have to look far and wide to find a stronger technical wrestler than APOC, who lit into Mr. Carson with a flurry of offensive moves: standing strikes, a body slam, a series of chops in the corner, and then a bulldog for a pin. But the challenger rolled out and stumbled to his valet for consolation.

APOC left the ring to confront Mr. Carson. ?I was tired of him running away from me,? the champ said. ?But when I approached him, he showed a touch of cowardice by hiding behind Miss Jaynes and putting her between the two of us. Then he threw her at me, expecting me to hit her or something ? I don't know ? but I caught her like a true gentleman and moved her out of the way.?

Their Texas Wrestling Heritage
Emerges with a Fury

The challenger took advantage of the distraction, attacking APOC from behind and gaining the upper hand. Eventually the two arrived eye-to-eye in the center of the ring, trading blows in an old-fashioned Texas brawl evocative of the glory days of Kerry Von Erich ? as if a ghostly Iron Claw or Tornado Punch would emerge from the fury.

The fans roared their approval, cheering loudly when APOC struck a standing forearm, then booing with gusto when Houston Carson struck a counterblow. Boo! Yea! Boo! Yea! Boo! Yea!

Slamming Mr. Carson into the ropes, APOC delivered a tornado forearm and prepared to put the challenger away with his End of Days finisher. But up popped Miss Jaynes, prancing along the apron. ?I guess she thought she'd distract me, or maybe the ref, or both of us, I don't rightly know,? APOC said. ?I mean, she is attractive, so she did get my attention. Carson tried to capitalize and again sought to jump me from behind.?

This time the Texoma Texas Heavyweight Champion was ready. APOC jumped out of the way and ? lickety split just like that ? he caught the challenger in a schoolboy rollup for the one, two, three!

Spoken Like a Champion

?So again, it wasn't everything I wanted it to be, wasn't the challenge, the test I was hoping for,? APOC admitted afterward, speaking like a champion. ?Even though he probably wasn't 100 per cent good-to-go, he took me to the edge. It was an honor to get in the ring and prove myself against him.?
In the Ring

APOC retires to Purgatory for the Easter weekend, then returns to the ring for several matches this spring.

On April 3, the night of WrestleMania, APOC will join NWA North American Heavyweight Champion Tim Storm to wrestle as The Vet Club at a special midnight show in Arlington, Texas. The Vet Club will be defending their VIP Wrestling Tag Team Championship.

On April 9 APOC will defend his North Texas Wrestling Alliance Heavyweight Championship at Gun Barrel, Texas.

On April 15 he will defend his NWA Texoma Texas Heavyweight Championship in Sherman.

Should he prevail on April 9, APOC tells The Tribune he will be issuing a challenge to Tim Storm, putting his North Texas Wrestling Alliance title on the line. The title match, should it occur, will be for the NTWA title only and is not sanctioned by the NWA.
