Stepstool Tommy D Makes A Rare Appearance
Posted: Mar 28th 2016 By: Tribune Press Services
StepStool Tommy D, the pint-sized powerhouse and ?Biggest Manager in Wrestling,? flew in from the desert oasis of Las Vegas on March 18 for a rare public appearance at the monthly NWA Texoma show in Sherman, Texas. To say Tommy D was a hit with the knowledgeable fans at the sold-out venue is an understatement.
In fact, some of the fans probably wanted to hit Tommy D with his trademark stepstool after enduring the audacious visitor's insults. But in the spirit of pro wrestling, it was all very good fun at one of the hottest venues on the Indie scene. Joe Exotic TV reported that over fifty thousand fans were tuned-in to the live broadcast of the show.
The Bad Boy Ring Announcer
Working the first three matches as ring announcer, Tommy D taunted the fans and insulted the Great State of Texas as he announced the matches, demanding that the fans not call him ?midget? or ?shrimp,? which they promptly did with rowdy chants and jeers. The bad boy manager, who at 5-foot 2-inches is a very short man, appeared to be unfazed by the verbal assaults.

Tommy D Is Coming Back Strong
Afterward, a reflective Tommy D told The Tribune that he was contemplating a return to active participation in the sport he loves. The dynamic scene at NWA Texoma grabbed his attention and wouldn't let go.
?I have been all over the world in my 26 years in pro wrestling and I don't impress easy," StepStool said. ?I have also worked for hundreds of wrestling federations, both big and small, so when NWA Texoma called me to appear as their Special Guest Ring Announcer, I really didn't think it would be anything special, but man was I ever wrong.
?A sold-out crowd and 56,000 fans watching live on the Internet is pretty special,? he continued. ?The fans, whether they loved me or hated me, were loud, excited, and responded to everything. I want to thank the promoters of NWA Texoma, Robert Langdon and Terri Hopper, for booking me. The fans, the show, and the boys in the locker room were all just totally professional.?
Days of the Honky Tonk Man
It was a nostalgic evening for Tommy D, who began his career in California, training with Mondo Guerrero's company as a wrestler, then transitioning to the role of referee. He traveled with the great Danny Hodge during a tour of Japan and worked as Honky Tonk Man's manager in the late 1990s and early 2000s during the Man's legendary battles with Jake the Snake Roberts. He traveled on tours with close friend and mentor General Skandor Akbar for 15 years on the Indie circuit.
?Not only did I reach a new fan base tonight at Sherman, but I also got to see lots of old friends in the locker room,? Tommy D said. ?Some of these guys I haven't seen in ten years or more, and it was great to catch up on old times, while at the same time meeting other great champions and talent that I had not worked with before.?
The Texoma event was Tommy D's first time to appear in a National Wrestling Alliance show. ?I had thought that the independent wrestling days were done, but NWA Texoma and their awesome wrestling card, as well as their dedicated fans, proved that there is still hope to bring back the territories from the old days that we all miss,? StepStool said. ?I am impressed that that so many fans tuned-in live on Joe Exotic TV on YouTube. That is more than TNA or WWE draws for their house shows.?
Leaving on a Jet Plane
StepStool Tommy D left us with a parting word as he drove away in his hot little sports car for the Dallas airport and his return flight to Vegas.
?I had a blast working for NWA Texoma and their great fans and the spectacular talent on the card,? the little big man said. ?I would jump on a plane from Las Vegas and come back anytime. And I'll be watching NWA Texoma every month live. A manager's always looking for new talent ? and I hope to be back managing one or another superstar in this great organization very soon!?
