The Tale of a Brass-Knuckle Cheat And a Double Countout Heartbreaker
Posted: Jan 13th 2016 By: Tribune Press Services
A couple of hard-charging NWA Texoma champions invaded Houston this past weekend, leaving havoc in their wake. One of the champs fell to a brass-knuckle cheat. The other brought the house down in a hotly disputed, double-countout brawl.
APOC the Apocalyptic Menace, who is current NWA Texoma Texas Champion, lost to The Assassin in a feature match at Texas All-Pro Wrestling's Armageddon Saturday show in the West Houston Indoor Soccer Arena.
Charlie Haas, who holds the Texoma Heavyweight Championship belt, fought David Super Duperon to a brutal draw in another feature match. Or so we think. The outcome remains in dispute, but what's for certain is that the pro from Frisco put a hurt on local favorite Mr. Duperon and roused extreme ire in the hearts of Houston fans.
Come on Ref, The Assassin's Got the Knuckles!
Despite enthusiastic help from the fans, APOC couldn't convince the referee that Manager Nick Silver had slipped a set of brass knuckles into The Assassin's hands. "He was shifting the knuckles from place to place, and I tried to get the ref to find them ? unsuccessfully," APOC told The Tribune. "He threw them back to the manager before he got caught."
Undaunted, APOC got his mojo back in good order and set about dismantling The Assassin. "I hit him with my clothesline, my back elbow, and a snap power slam," APOC recalled as we chatted during his Sunday morning drive back to The Assassin the wilds of north central Texas. "I worked him into a corner, where he fell to the ground. And his manager apparently slipped the brass knuckles back into his hands."
Picking up his stunned foe for the belly-to-back suplex coup de grace, APOC suddenly felt a sharp blow to his head. The Assassin had struck, punching APOC with the brass knuckles to send the Apocalyptic Menace into a sea of sparkling stars.
"He knocked me out for a couple of seconds and got the cheat victory, one-two-three," APOC said. "Maybe for three seconds. Now that I think about it, I was out for a total of four seconds ? just enough for The Assassin to get the victory. So I got cheated, but the fans were totally on my side and pleading with the ref to start the match over or disqualify him."
'Things Erupted' at the End.
The bout between Mr. Haas and David Duperon may have been the most emotional of the night. It sure fired-up the fans. Much loved by his Houston followers, Super Duper battled Charlie tooth-and-nail in an incredibly technical, old-school wrestling match. "I would not say that Charlie put a hurt on David," All-Pro promoter Delbert Folmer told The Tribune. "It was a great match with both men taking their fair share of punishment."
After the ref's double countout brought the bout to an end, "things erupted," Mr. Folmer recounted. "The locker room rushed out to clear the area. An emotional David Duperon stood in the center of the ring with blood dripping from his nose, and he demanded and received a rematch. Charlie reacted wildly, throwing a water bottle towards the ring after hearing he was to face David again."
"Charlie did really well," APOC said. "But yea, he is not a very well-liked person down there. He managed to piss everybody off." Do you think he broke their hearts? "Absolutely," APOC replied. "One hundred percent."
Texas All-Pro Wrestling
Texas All-Pro Wrestling is a traditional, legacy company with roots extending way back to the days when pro wrestling was very much "old school." As best we know, TAPW was founded by Tugboat Taylor, who worked in the WWF and AWA, and his partner Delbert Folmer. Mr. Folmer and his son Eric recently revived Texas All-Pro Wrestling and are planning a series of matches and tournaments in 2016.
