Former WWE star Buddy Landel dies, aged 52

Former WWE star Buddy Landel has died, aged 52.

A statement issued by WWE today (June 22) confirmed multiple media reports that Landel died several days after he was injured in a car crash.

Landel ? real name William Ansor ? began his wrestling career in the Southern US in the late 1970s, rising to promise by the turn of the decade.

'The Nature Boy' competed for World Championship Wrestling at various points in his career, and also briefly worked in the WWF in 1995.

Throughout his career, Landel held the NWA National Heavyweight Championship and AWA Southern Heavyweight Championship.

He is survived by his wife.
