We are under two weeks and counting until our first RINGSIDE w/ Jim Ross Show in Baltimore on Saturday May 16 at Rams Head Live. Less than 10 VIP tickets remain which gets you a private meet & greet plus photo op and a little something extra from yours truly. If you buy general admission tickets in advance for $22.50 you will save $$ as they are $25 at the door and all tickets can be purchased conveniently online at ramsheadlive.com.
Good time to catch up and more importantly subscribe to the Ross Report Podcast at iTunes for FREE to insure that you don't miss a show plus you subscribing helps our numbers a bunch. A new show drops every Tuesday night at 9 ET and this week's guest is @SamoaJoe which is a fascinating conversation with wrestling's hottest free agent about his career, training in the dojos, working in Japan, the indies, ROH, TNA, and perhaps signing with WWE some day soon, his dream opponent and much more.
The current Ross Report features Mike Johnson of PWInsider and we talk WWE, ROH, TNA, New Japan, Billy Corgan, Samoa Joe and much more including Extreme Rules in a loaded show that has received positive reviews. You can hear the latest Ross Report and by not even leaving this website by simply going to the home page and using one click of your mouse.
The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was under whelming to say the least. The post match press conference, yes I watched it until well after 2 a.m. Oklahoma time, was even more of an unhinged circus with excuses, outlandish statements and fighters endangering their health as in breaking their arms patting themselves on the back. Manny hallucinated that he thought he won the fight while Floyd gave us an update on his bank account. The fight itself was pedestrian to say the least and never truly created any fire or passion to engage the rich and famous fans there to be seen and obviously not to be heard. Legit fight fans were priced out of the equation but provided TMZ, Entertainment Tonight, etc with plenty of footage and sound bytes to last a week or more.
This fight was an enormous success in the hype department and obviously a financial bonanza for all involved one has to believe. However, millions were left on the ground by having the fight in the MGM Grand Hotel in Vegas instead of a domed stadium where 100,000 fans would likely have attended. No great promoter ever leaves money behind and millions were left behind by having this fight at a hotel and not a stadium.
I can't see any reason for a rematch as it will be hard to promote after what we saw Saturday night and the styles of the two fighters, at this stage of their careers, doesn't make for an exciting bout. Floyd's domestic battery issues that were called into question made him the overwhelming 'heel' in the equation which will be his role until he hangs up his gloves allegedly after September. Nonetheless, many fans will pay to see the villain get vanquished just as they did Mohammed Ali back in the day and countless, pro wrestling bad guys over the years, as well.
This I know...WWE and UFC both produce better, big events than what I saw last night in the strange marriage between HBO and Showtime. It was akin to watching the ESPY's with a prize fight as the backdrop. Lots of beautiful people but the sweet science on full display, as the sport so desperately needed, was missing.
We are planning a special show in NYC for Summer Slam Saturday night August 22 at the Gramercy Theater and tickets are on sale now at www.ticketmaster.com. Join us the night before WWE presents their biggest event of the
Summer and will be giving pair of tickets to the Summer Slam event away at our show.
As mentioned here a week or so ago we are discussing about doing another August event, our first ever in Washington, D.C. but those details aren't finalized just yet but I will obviously keep you apprised.
Big announcements are coming this week from Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling group about their upcoming tapings to be held at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas this summer. I think that many wrestling fans will be pleasantly surprised at the GFW talent roster and will embrace the travel packages.
For those asking me about @WWENetwork producing more Legends of Wrestling Roundtable shows, I have heard nothing. This would be a question for @WWE and not me. Sorry but I have no info on what the @WWENetwork is planning.
Read where Hulk Hogan said that he was going to wrestle at WM32 in Arlington, Texas. Don't know if that's wishful thinking or something that has been internally confirmed. If Hogan is going to have 'one more match," WM32 would be the place to do it. It would be a nice, nostalgic, special attraction type of bout that I'm sure many fans would be curious to see.
Curious to see how my friend Billy Corgan can creatively impact TNA Impact Wrestling. @Billy is a creative genius in the field of music but is a devout student ot the business of pro wresting. I wish him well. TNA still has the same, primary issue and that is getting their older fans and their new fans to find Destination America on their TV.
I'm interviewing Al Snow Monday night for a future Ross Repot Podcast and if you have any questions for Al tweet me @JRsBBQ and use #AskJR.
Thanks for stopping by and for supporting all that we do.
