Mike Iles: Laying Down the Law In A Fair and Equitable Manner

Mike Iles: Laying Down the Law In A Fair and Equitable Manner

Posted: Jun 8th 2007 By: CMBurnham

Mike Iles would tell you himself that he is a "fan" of pro wrestling. And he wants to deliver the best show possible to the fans of SWCW as their commissioner. However, that job has become increasingly difficult in recent weeks as it seems the inmates are trying to take over the asylum and Iles has been the centre of controversy regarding some of his decisions.

Iles had to intercede on several occassions at the last SWCW show. When SWCW, ComPro & NWA-U Universal Tag Team Champions Texas, Inc. delivered spike piledrivers to both members of Warrior Elite after a successful title defence, Iles came storming down the ramp. In a calm, rational manner, he informed them that they were to take the next month off to "recharge their batteries" and that their "vacation" started immediately. Timothy J. Rockwell, Bernard Funk and their manager Stevie Caballero were ordered to leave the building by Iles, who then entered the ring to announce some additions to the Night of Champions. AACW Mid-American Light Heavyweight Champion Dexter Hardaway would be defending his SWCW Sooner Xtreme Title in a Gauntlet match against 6 opponents, assuming he made it all the way through. And AACW Women's Champion Venom would face Talon to determine the 1st ever SWCW Women's Champion.

After Venom defeated Talon, Iles appeared again to call out AACW Hardcore Champion Kareem Sadat. Two weeks previous, Sadat had delivered a beating to Iles in the ring with a kendo stick, much to the delight of the fans. Mike acknowledged that he "got his ass kicked" and told Sadat that he had the power to strip him of the SWCW Hardcore Title and suspend him indefinetely for that action, but that wouldn't be fair to Sadat's opponent that night and it most importantly to him, it wouldn't be fair to the fans. For reasons that escape Iles, the fans love Sadat and wanted to see him defend his belt against Damien Morte. Iles announced that he would give the fans what they wanted right then and the Hardcore Match started immediately. Fans certainly got their money's worth as these two men battled all over the arena, up towards the fans and crashed through a platform box near the bell table. After some interference from X-Rated, Morte got the pin and became the new SWCW Hardcore Champion.

Iles' night wasn't over though. After intermission, Dexter Hardaway came out, accompanied by Talon, to "run the gauntlet" and defend his Sooner Xtreme Title. His first opponent was James Warbois, who had been mocking Luscious Larry earlier. Hardaway disposed of Warbois quickly, then was faced with taking down the massive Terry Montana. Hardaway probably would never have accomplished this had it not been for some distraction and assistance from Talon. After pinning Montana, Iles came striding down the ramp. He told Hardway that he would not overturn the decision in the match, but he clearly saw that Dexter was relying on help from Talon, so he ordered Talon to leave the ring area to make this a fair fight for all the future opponents. With Dexter left alone and Talon storming up the ramp, things looked bad for "Hardtimes". But Dexter pulled it together and defeated Bobby Dalton and Shane Sanchez. Then, he was faced with AACW Television Champion Prophet and Dexter's luck ran out as he was pinned in the middle of the ring. Prophet went on to face MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champion Outlaw and after a hard fought contest, defeated him to claim the Sooner Xtreme title.

While things seem calm right now, issues are still building that Iles will have to deal with. Luscious Larry and James Warbois are not seeing eye-to-eye. Dexter Hardaway certainly would like to reclaim the only gold Corporate America held. And Texas, Inc. is certainly stewing over their suspension and will probably try to take out their frustrations on opponents elsewhere. Funk and Rockwell and scheduled to defend thier NWA-U Universal Tag Team Titles at the end of the month in Wagoner and Mike Iles will be there to do play-by-play for the DVD recording as well as conduct ringside interviews. Iles does not have the power or position in NWA-U that he does in SWCW, so might Texas, Inc. try to gain some revenge outside SWCW? Iles had best watch his back as any leader quickly finds out that you can't please everyone.
