Larry Zbyszko, one of the most skilled in-ring technicians of his time and a name synonymous with the WCW broadcast booth, is headed to the WWE Hall of Fame, as announced by WWE via Twitter. Zbyszko was named the latest inductee on Monday, joining a class that expands in scope with every passing week
"My gut feeling over the years was that probably someday, sooner or later, I'd be getting in?and not just because of the long career I had," Zbyszko told James Montgomery of Rolling Stone. "I'm a fan at heart; I love this business, and the Hall of Fame is an awesome part of the business. This has been my life, and if I had to do it again, I'd do it all the same?except maybe not get married so many times."
Zbyszko has been a sports-entertainment fixture since the early 1970s, becoming one of the faces of WWE thanks to a rivalry with mentor Bruno Sammartino. After leaving WWE, Zbyszko spent the next part of his career helping prop up the AWA in the 1980s, before moving full-time to WCW.
At WCW, Zbyszko was a jack-of-all-trades, moving in and out of storylines as a part-time brawler, while being best known for his work in the broadcast booth. His ability to break down matches and his analytical style fashioned him as one of the definitive voices during the Monday Night Wars, where his voice helped propel Monday Nitro to new heights.
Since leaving WCW in 2000, Zbyszko has worked on the independent circuits and with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. He rejoined WWE in 2013 under a legends contract.
Zbyszko is the sixth known induction for the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame class, joining Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rikishi, Alundra Blayze and The Bushwhackers.
