Karma Comes Around for Brad Michaels
Posted: May 30th 2007 By: CMBurnham
It's easy to think you're invincible when you're on top. Just ask MSWA Mid-South Champion Brad Michaels. He's on top of the Mid-South Wrestling Alliance as their champion. He's a member of Impact, Inc., which means he can do pretty much anything in IZW. He enjoys life as the CEO of the OSA. But when you're on top, there's not much of anywhere to go but down. And while Michaels hasn't crashed yet, he may be experiencing a steep drop in his status soon.
Michaels' weekend began when he appeared on the big screen at the IZW show during a match between Thomas Rumsfeld and IZW Impact Division Champion John O'Malley. This was supposed to be a title match, but after being introduced, O'Malley was shown running around the backstage area, searching frantically for his belt. A few seconds later, he came bursting through the curtain and, after a quick conference with referee Thomas Patrick, ring announcer Steve O declared that this would have to be a non-title match since the belt could not be found. This did not sit well with Rumsfeld, who hoped to make an impact this night and bring some gold to the Cabinet. O'Malley focused his aggression on his opponent and, as he hoisted him up for the Burning Hammer, Michaels appeared on the screen and revealed that he had the belt in his possession and O'Malley would never see it again. This was enough of a distraction that Rumsfeld was able to cradle O'Malley and, with a handful of tights, scored the pin. However, the only person to leave the match happy appeared to be Michaels, as he had pulled on over The Irish Phenom.
Michaels would not be as happy later in the show as he came out to defend his title against Angel Williams. Williams had won the title shot when Ryan Davidson & MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions Bad Boy & Outlaw beat Impact, Inc. in a 6-man tag at the last MSWA show. Michaels knew he was giving up a lot of size and power and Angel came prepared to bring the gold back home to MSWA. Most of the match was dominated by Williams who threw Michaels around the inside AND outside of the ring. It seemed nothing that Michaels did had any effect, no matter how devious it was. But towards the end of the match, IZW owner John Zorthos came out to distract the referee, which allowed Impact, Inc. member Gary Tool to enter the ring with a chair. Tool hit Williams with the chair, but it seemed to have no effect and, after wrenching the chair from Tool, Williams hit another "home run" on Tool's head, knocking him unconscious in the ring. As Williams stood tall in the ring over the fallen "Coach", Michaels snuck in a low blow, then piledrove Williams on the steel chair, allowing the referee to count 3 and Michaels to sneak away with the title once again.
With his title still successfully in his grasp, Michaels and the rest of Impact, Inc. made thier presence known on Sunday at the MSWA show. They interfered in a match between Red the Magnificent and new IZW Cruiserweight Champion Matt Garza to determine a new #1 contender to Cody Jones' MSWA Mid-South Cruiserweight Title. After disposing of both of those wrestlers, John Zorthos demanded to see MSWA commissioner Halo, who promptly arrived and in no mood to play games with Impact, Inc. After several taunts and threats were thrown around, Halo laid down the law and demanded that Michaels defend his title that afternoon against UWF06 Light Heavyweight Champion Eric Rose. Michaels countered that he coudn't be forced to defend his title, as he was only required to defend once every 30 days and he had just defended the night before. Halo admitted that he could not force Michaels to defend the title, but he could force him to wrestle Rose in a non-title match and that was going to be the main event.
When it came time for the main event, Michaels came to the ring alone and Rose came accompanied by his valet, Maria Starr. The match was a back-and-forth affair, with Rose using lots of high-flying maneouvres and Michaels resorting to treachery and deceit to try and keep from losing. Eventually, the experience factor proved too much for Rose and he was pinned by Michaels, who yelled at the referee the whole time the 3-count was being made. Then, in an act of extreme cowardice, Michaels piledrove Rose after the match and tried to piledrive Maria. This brought Halo, who had been sitting ringside, to his feet and onto the microphone to order Michaels to stop before legal action had to be taken. He then reminded Michaels that he had promised to announce to the fans the new #1 contender to the Mid-South Title before the end of the show and that time had arrived. The #1 contender to the title was...Big John O'Malley!! Michaels turned an even whiter shade of pale as O'Malley made his way to ringside and declared the next time he met Brad Michaels in the ring would be the last time he held MSWA gold.
So now, the waiting is on. No announcement has been made about when O'Malley gets his title shot, but it can't be soon enough for the big man from Dublin, OH. With O'Malley being a former member of the Old School Assassins, he knows Michaels all too well and would certainlly take pleasure in removing that gold, along with the IZW gold illegally in Michaels' possession, and bringing them both back to MSWA. Michaels is going to need every trick in the book to keep his title. And even all those tricks might not be enough without karma on his side.
