Omega X Vie For Tag Team Titles; Try To Gain Revenge For Brief Title Reign
Posted: Jan 7th 2015 By: Michael Hunt
The tag team title situation in UWE took a huge step up recently as the titles have switched hands 3 times in almost as many months.
So many teams have vied for the titles including Omega X, The K. C. Wolves, A. C. Slaughter and The Brotherhood. And now, with the recent addition of The Loaded Guns, it seems that tag team wrestling may be on the way to a new height in the company.
Back on October 19, 2013, Aaron Anders and Clint Cassidy simultaneously pinned two other men in a 6-pack challenge to earn a contract giving them a shot at any title at any time. But shortly after that, Anders and Cassidy, who were never teammates in UWE to begin with, departed from the company and most believed that they had forfeited their title opportunity in doing so. They could not have been more wrong.
In the meantime, the K. C. Wolves made 2014 their year by capturing the UWE Tag Team Titles. But later on, they turned in Jon Cross, costing him the UWE Title and becoming charter members of The Vilains. The Wolves saw their UWE Tag Team Title reign ended on June 14, 2014 when they were beaten by Omega X. The ever-feisty X-Statik and 2nd generation star Brett Stopp were certainly popular with the fans and had been the perennial underdogs for quite a while. But capturing the titles cemented them as a viable addition to the division. Now they just had to defend it.
Their first title defence was a stiff challenge as they faced off against two teams in a Triple Threat Match. Maddox Jones and MSWA Oklahoma Champion Spike Lopez, collectively known as Tough Love, were one challenger while Kyng Benjamin and Akuma Jones provided competition in the other corner. In true underdog fashion, Tough Love overcame the odds and retained their titles. But then, a surprise return by Aaron Anders and Clint Cassidy, who teamed up and cashed in their contract. With Omega X exhausted from the previous match, this sudden challenge was something they were not prepared for and Cassidy and Anders prevailed, becoming UWE Tag Team Champions.
Omega X cashed in their automatic rematch for Showdown on September 20th, but Benjamin and Jones surprised everyone by buying their way into the match as well, making it another Triple Threat. This time, it was Benjamin and Jones who prevailed and for the third time in 3 months, there were new UWE Tag Team champions.
The next month, Benjamin and Jones seemed to form some sort of alliance with UWE Champion Robert Lee. While nothing came of that alliance immediately, nor was it formally admitted to, the trio could be seen conversing with each other backstage, whispering in corners. All that conspiracy would come to fruition on November 15th at the last UWE event of the year.
Omega X teamed with Brittany Foxx to open the show against three members of Rolling Thunder, Inc. Rolling Thunder apparently was not concerned about the competition as he did not even bother putting on wrestling gear, choosing instead to compete in his jeans. He also allowed the other Rolling Thunders to do most of the work in the ring, which really entailed them just absorbing a lot of punishment. In the end, the intergender trio were victorious and Omega X believed it was the end for their involvement that night.
Robert Lee, now wanting to simply be known as Mr. Nasty, defended his UWE United States Title against Clint Cassidy. Lee had no problem disposing of the former tag team champion and regained some momentum he had lost the previous month with a loss in a title-vs-title match by DQ to UWE Champion Fuel.
But the big turning point to the match was the main event when The Loaded Guns, Brandon Walker and WFC Hometown Heroes Champion Jon Cross, challenged Kyng Benjamin & Akuma Jones (now known as The Brotherhood) for the titles. Mr Nasty joined C. M. Burnham and Robbie Awesome at ringside for commentary. It was a showcase for all four men involved: The power of Jones, the technical mastery of Cross, the aerial stylings of Walker and the ring leadership of Benjamin. But when it began to look like The Brotherhood were going to lose the tag team titles they had only won a month before, Mr. Nasty left the ringside area and jumped in the ring, earning a DQ for his team, but saving their titles. Cross and Walker tried to hold their own on a 3-on-2 attack, but appeared to be losing until Omega X arrived and the odds switched to the favour of the fan favourites.
Or at least it appeared that way. Omega X quickly began posturing and claiming they were the # 1 contenders to the UWE Tag Team Titles. Both top contenders appeared to be willing to battle each other right there while the champions looked on from outside the ring, satisfied that their enemies were doing their dirty work for them.
This Saturday, UWE will put on their first event of 2015. All the people involved in this issue are scheduled to be there. Perhaps the issue can be resolved in a match between them all. But given the volatile personalities involved, that does not seem to be the likely course of action.
