Stacking Up The Title Opportunities

Stacking Up The Title Opportunities

Posted: Nov 7th 2014 By: CMBurnham

It goes without saying that Sam Stackhouse sticks out in a crowd. That is true both in and out of the wrestling area.

Wherever Stackhouse has gone, gold has come his way. He is the only 3-time SRPW Champion in the history of that company and one of the few to have held both the Heavyweight and Tag Team Titles in that company.

Stackhouse has certainly taken steps to improve his showings in the ring over the past year and those efforts paid out on a huge scale recently. SRPW was invited to put on 5 events during the run of the Tulsa State Fair, providing tremendous exposure to many of the members of SRPW roster. One of the most memorable matches to take place on those events was a Triple Threat Ladder Match where the winner would gain a contract for any title in the company. Stackhouse was entered into that contest along with Aaron Anders and MSWA Oklahoma Champion Spike Lopez. On the surface, a ladder match does not seem like an area where Stackhouse would succeed. Gravity is certainly a factor as well as agility, but Stackhouse has often defied the odds time and again to achieve much of the success that has come his way. This match was filled with some of the most death defying moves any of these three had ever displayed. Anders perhaps brought the most experience in ladder matches, but Spike and Stackhouse both had that desire to prove them selves. Despite taking a beating, the ladder was able to support the mass of Stackhouse as he eventually ascended to the top and grabbed the contract, securing his chance to once again add his name to the championship legacy in the future.

That victory could have been enough for Stackhouse, but it was just the beginning of Stackhouse's accomplishment over the next month. The next week, Stackhouse stepped in the ring against Tim Rockwell. The second generation star would pose yet another strong challenge to Stackhouse, but a solid Black Hole Slam brought that match to an end decisively.

Stackhouse was not just cementing his legacy in SRPW. He also wanted to regain a title he had just a brief taste of: the ComPro Showtime Title. In May, Stackhouse won the title from Steven Sterling, but Sterling regained it in a 20-minute Scramble Match. Sterling was unable to return to ComPro after their break in the summer, so the title was declared vacant in September and it was decided that the winner of the annual Oklahoma Stampede would become champion. Stackhouse was one of the final four people in that match, along with a Patient Zero, ComPro Tag Team Champion Menace 2nd and ComPro Oklahoma X Division Champion Terry Montana. In a demonstration of just how atypical of a big man Stackhouse is, he was able to dropkick Menace out of the ring, but while and Montana struggled with each other near the ropes, Zero grabbed both their legs and upended them over the top, claiming the title for himself. A disappointing loss, but Stackhouse did exorcise some of his frustration later that night in a victory over Spike Lopez.

But perhaps not all the frustration has been worked out for Stackhouse. Two weeks ago at the SRPW event, Stackhouse faced Skyler Faden. Prior to his match, Stackhouse spoke to the crowd and seems full of hatred and anger. Perhaps it is because he feels shut out of the SRPW title picture, despite having that contract for a potential title shot. Or perhaps it is something else. Stackhouse certainly dominated the match and did gain a win. But is it enough?

Stackhouse seems very unhappy with his position in SRPW. He also was unable to regain the ComPro Showtime Title in a match against Patient Zero in a match this past Saturday. It was the first defeat that Stackhouse had suffered in almost 6 weeks and may have just been one blip on the radar of his career. With titles in his site in both of these federations as well as his alliance with Maddox Jones in WFC and a potential target of the tag team titles there, Stackhouse looks to have the possibility to be rolling in the gold by the end of 2014.
