Wrestling and Baseball Double Header in Tampa a Success

Wrestling and Baseball Double Header in Tampa a Success

Posted: May 22nd 2007 By: CMBurnham

The Double Header at Tropicana Field was a huge success. And before we tell you more about it, we want to thank Brian Knobs, the Devil Rays 10th man, for doing an outstanding job in putting all this together. It took a lot of hard work and perseverance to get this done. We also want to thank the Devil Rays Organization for giving us the opportunity to do this and for their support throughout the entire event.
We were very impressed with their Organization and Professionalism.

They treated us great and we enjoyed watching the game from the Press Box they made available for us.
The only thing that could have made the night better, would have been a win for the Devil Rays.

There were close to 15000 people in attendance which was up substantially from their Friday night average. Management was pleased with the entire evening and by the amount of people that stayed for the wrestling show, especially since most people normally leave before the end of the game when the Rays are loosing. And we heard from a reliable source that negotiations are under way for a repeat performance, maybe when the Yankees are in town?

Everything went off without a glitch and the wrestling show was very well put together. Throughout the night they gave away many prizes that WWE had graciously donated, including the Wrestlemania 24 tickets for Orlando in 2008, and between innings they showed the pre-tapes on the big screen.

The autograph session went well, and the people were very excited to have the opportunity to meet all the legends like Bret "the Hitman" Hart, The Nasty Boys, Mean Gene Okerlund, Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, Greg the Hammer Valentine, Tatanka, Tampa Commissioner Brian Blair, King Haku, and the Cuban Assassin with Fantasy.

After the game it took less than 10 minutes to set up the ring and we were ready to rumble. The first match was King Haku against Tatanka. What a way to start the show, they had a solid match with both men going at it full force. Eventually Tatanka got the upper hand and the 1,2,3 on King Haku.

Next was mentor vs student. Greg the Hammer took on Brutus the Barber Beefcake and after a hard fought match beat him with a small package. Beefcake was so irate that he grabbed a fan who was laughing at him, an was incidentally wearing a Yankee's Jersey, from the crowd. He gave him a big boot and a Beefcake hair cut to go with it.
Afterwards, Greg came to shake his hand and presented him with a Devil Rays Jersey with his name on it and Beefcake joined the 10th man nation.

The last match and main event of the evening was Rick Steiner and the Cuban Assassin managed by Fantasy, taking on the Nasty Boys Brian Knobs and Jerry Saggs. It was Brian Knobs big return to the ring.
the first thing they did was stooge off to the Wrestling and Tampa Commissioner Brian Blair that Fantasy did not have a valid managers license for the privately owned Tropicana facility and requested that she be sent back to the locker room. She refused to leave and was escorted back by a Security Guard. And as if that wasn't enough, Brian Blair then turned the bout into a no DQ match.
The match was what you would expect. Lots of fists flying, punches, kicks and all around crazy mayhem in the ring and out. Both teams gave as good as they got. Then Cuban ended up outside the ring with Saggs and motioned for Fantasy to come out. She managed to hand him the Cuban Flag before she got once again ejected by Brian Blair. However before Cuban could hit Saggs with the flag the Devil Ray's Player Jonny Gomes came out of the front row and snatched the flag out of Cuban's hands. Then Saggs threw Cuban back in the ring. Steiner who had been fighting Knobs missed his opponent with a chair shot and got hit himself. Then Gomes threw Saggs a garbage can, who in turn threw it to Knobs. Knobs then did the Nasty with the garbage can right on Cubans head. 1, 2, 3.

All around it was a night to remember for everyone in attendance. And we thank everyone who came out to see it, if not you might have another opportunity in the near future. Maybe this time it will be on a Saturday night. So keep your fingers crossed and we will see you at the matches or stop by Crazy Dave's Sports Bar at 201 Keene Rd in Largo. You never know who will be there. And don't forget check out our website at www.cubanworldwide.com
