Fun week coming up on the Ross Report Podcast that you can hear on podcastone.com or via subscribing for FREE at iTunes where you won't miss a show and can go back and hear our great, archived ones. Plus, by subscribing for FREE it really helps our cause a great deal and again costs you nothing. Thanks for considering that option. Let's grill....
Our podcast topped out at #7 out of the iTunes Top 300 Sports podcasts this past week. I sincerely thank you all for downloading our shows and telling others about it.
This week we do a double header inasmuch as my guests on the show will be the author of several wrestling books including '30 Years of WrestleMania,' Brian Shields, and the noted artist Rob Schamberger whose acclaimed work is gaining worldwide recognition and much of it is available at WWEShop.com. These two life long fans have chosen different career paths to address their pro wrestling fix and are highly accomplished within their chosen fields of expertise.
Tuesday I will also be interviewing Leon White aka Vader @itsvadertime for a future podcast and you can tweet me questions @JRsBBQ until about midday Tuesday central time.
Best college football bets of this week are taking K-State +7.5 points even though I think Oklahoma wins at home and laying the points and taking TCU -8.5 versus Oklahoma State in Fort Worth. I was right on the money last week encouraging fans to take Texas +14.5 vs my Sooners. I had OU winning but closer than Vegas predicted.
Not sure what the big deal is that some are making it out to be for the @WWENetwork to begin taking ads as the system that will be in place shouldn't be a negative as it relates to watching the Network. Just something else to complain about by and large.
With two reality show guests on RAW tonight, who knows what awaits the TV viewer but there's no way to go but up on this matter based on last week's epic fail of Hoda and Kathie Lee from the NBC Today Show. That piece of business was challenging to watch and made me want to organize my sock drawer.
Yes, I am advocating that taking a commercial break during a main event level bout does more harm than good, second screen experience or not. Most fans don't have the second screen nor do they care as much about it as a customer than before the WWE Network was launched and can only absorb so much 'selling' during a three hour marathon that's challenging to watch any way. By not break up matches with a commercial break, it lessens the opportunity for fans to channel surf, especially as it relates to Monday Night Football, plus it allows the talents to tell a better story with continuity and provides the big event feel at home that is often times missing on WWE's flagship show. Yes, by doing this it would take re-tooling the basic format of RAW but one could argue that matter is overdue.
Saw online where Jack Swagger told a story about my OU Football passion which is essentially true. Passion is a great trait to have and if more pro wrestlers demonstrated such in their every day life and, specifically, in their approach to the game they would be more successful but really that goes for all professions. One can't have too much passion in my opinion, however, overzealous people can be prone to use bad judgment at times that can retard their success.
One of the many themes of my first book will be to never allow others to define you or put limits on how successful that you can be no matter what one does for a living. I've had executives make fun and pigeon hole me as a Southern Hillbilly because of my accent while others have made light of my three bouts of Bells palsy and my residual, facial paralysis. In my view, they are the one's who have the problem and not me. Many former wrestling types no longer working in the business have outlined many of these stories during the research phase of our autobiography to the level that I may leave a great deal of it out to simply not embarrass the offenders and their families especially their children.
More than the dirt that this would entail, the lessons to be learned are to not be a bully or a coward and don't practice the age old pro wrestling technique of 'ribbing on the square' IE to get a higher up to laugh at the expense of another's misfortune.
Just as the late Scandor Akbar told me 40 years ago, if one gets out of the wrestling biz with five friends that they can truly count on, then one is extremely lucky. That's why I attempt to keep in touch with my handful of wrestling business friends because our tomorrow's aren't guaranteed and, using Ak's philosophy, that process of touching base doesn't take long but it is so rewarding.
My contributions to @USATodaySports will be in the paper Tuesday as I'm a member of @USAToday mock college football selection committee. Check it out in the actually paper or online.
We are getting some interesting inquiries for appearances, Our One Man Show, Ringside with Jim Ross, MMA, Boxing, college speaking and other gigs for 2015. As they are confirmed I will keep you apprised.
Have you taken a moment to check out http://www.prowrestlingtees.com/jimross yet? Take a look at all the cool, tees that are available in ALL sizes and that can be shipped WORLDWIDE.
I'm working on a Hell in a Cell piece for @FoxSports digital. Stay tuned for more info.
WWE would be wise to consider hiring a handful of seasoned veterans to work with their highly regarded younger talents if for nothing else a short term IE one year contract. Young talents cannot get better working with those who are not better than the rookies.
Plan on attending a kickboxing event on Friday November 7 in Shawnee, Oklahoma that my pal @MauroRanallo is broadcasting.
Thanks for supporting all our efforts that we have going. Your support is more important than many of you will ever know and that includes those that enjoy our delicious products via online shopping at WWEShop.com, americansoda.co.uk, and beyondtheropes.co.uk.
I've updated the latest Q&A's here on the site if you'd like to check them out.
