Slave to the Deathmatch V Field Report

Slave to the Deathmatch V Field Report

Posted: Sep 17th 2014 By: Ben Ledoux

Primos Hardcore and Wrestling presents its annual Slave to the Deathmatch on Sunday, September 21st at Club Fuego Fuego (740 Peoria St., Aurora, CO) with bell time at 7 PM. While the shows may not be as well known as CZW?s Tournament of Death or IWA Mid South?s King of the Deathmatches, Primos has made this annual tournament one of the biggest drawing events in the region with its mix of deathmatch-style wrestling and high profile matches including some of the top talent not only in Colorado but in the country. Past feature stars of Slave to the Deathmatch include Madman Pondo, Tommy Dreamer, Mick Foley, Sabu, and Necro Butcher.

This year?s show will feature Rikishi, DH Smith, and former NXT star Sum Udell in feature matches along with the top deathmatch talent in the country vying for what has become a very prestigious trophy in the Rocky Mountain region. Let?s run down the 14 advertised competitors in the 16-man tournament:

Manimal
Manimal is a veteran of the Slave to the Deathmatch tournament, losing very early on in his last outing. The 300-pounder is a veteran of the Texas Independent circuit competing for organizations such as Big Texas Wrestling and Texas Heat Wrestling.

Outrage
Outrage is a wrestler out of Arizona and will be making his Primos debut at this show. I could not find much information about him but he appears to have done deathmatches with the AXW promotion in Utah. He could be a wildcard in this tournament as not much is known about him.

Shadow Xtreme
Shadow Xtreme comes from Primos Wrestling Canada and has competed in one other Slave to the Deathmatch, losing in the first round. Shadow appeared to be very apprehensive in his match but look for him to be a bigger factor this time around.

Romeo Falcon
Romeo is a product of Colorado wrestling having trained at the Butcher Shop. Since leaving Colorado, Romeo has begun making his name in Texas territories but is set to come back to Colorado for this tournament. Romeo is also a veteran of the Slave tournament, losing in the first round last year as well where Shadow Xtreme was his tag team partner.

Johnny Crash
Crash To The Deathmatch was successful again as Colorado veteran Johnny Crash will be making another appearance in Slave to the Deathmatch. Crash, a 15-year veteran having competed all across the Rocky Mountain region has no problem getting hit with any weapon and bringing the pain himself. Last year Crash found himself eliminated by Necro Butcher and JD Horror, lets see if he goes further this year.

Dalton Bragg
Dalton Bragg is another product of Colorado wrestling. In year?s past Dalton has done very well in this tournament and nearly won the tournament last year, eliminating the Death Rage Cartel and Mosh Pit Mike on his way to the finals. In year?s past Dalton had his bare feet dropped in thumbtacks, thumbtacks shoved into his mouth, and taken a ridiculous plancha through light tubes in year?s past so expect something crazy from him again this year.

Ray Basura
Another new addition to this year?s Slave to the Deathmatch is Mosh Pit Mike?s Brute 66 counterpart in Ray Basura. Basura is a veteran of the region having competed all along the West Coast and Rocky Mountain region and nearly caused a riot during a deathmatch with Mosh Pit Mike a few years back. Look for Basura to try and make a name for himself during this tournament, possibly on his tag team partner Mosh Pit Mike if their path?s cross.

Ruben Steel
Ruben Steel has been in a supporting role for Chuey Martinez during the Slave tournaments. The two men have traveled this country as well as Mexico together but I think Steel is tired as being seen as a sidekick by the Primos fans. It is nearly a lock that these two men will team together in the Slave qualifier if they run the tag style opening round this year but expect Ruben to look to step out of the shadow of Chuey and into the finals.

Khan Kussion
Another staple of the Slave tournament is the wild and unpredictable Khan Kussion. Resembling Sabu in look, style, and mentality, I have seen this man nearly kill himself in every deathmatch he has competed in. Expect Khan to make it far in this tournament but if you are in the front row, look out for flying light tubes (And that is a very serious statement).

El Vago Estevez Estrada
Talk about a relative unknown, Vago is coming to us from the Lucha Libre side of Colorado Independent Wrestling. Vago was a staple of IWF Lucha Libre a few years ago and anchored himself as one of the top stars of Hugo?s Promotions when all of IWF Lucha Libre?s superstars splintered off into their own promotions. When Vago lost his mask a few years ago, we saw a darker side of the Colorado luchador that will most definitely come out during this tournament.

JD Horror
JD Horror made the Necro Butcher tap out last year, if that does not speak volumes about this man?s street cred, I don?t know what else will. JD Horror did very well in both the Slave 4 tournament as well as going far in IWA Deep South?s Carnage Cup last year. Expect a great showing out of Horror this year as he looks to up his street cred and take home the Slave trophy.

Mosh Pit Mike
Another staple of the Slave tournaments, Mosh Pit Mike was my pick to win it last year but came up short after losing a lot of blood in the finals. Mosh is a great supporting character to these tournaments but if he wants to win, he has to look to name his name against Pagano in my opinion.

Chuey Martinez
The reigning Slave champion has always done very well in the tournaments and always gives the fans a show. I don?t think there has been a Slave finals match without him and I do not expect this year to be any different.

Joey Terrofyin?
And last but certainly not least is Joey Terrofyin?. For the last several years Terrofyin? has been making a name for himself and Primos during this event by taking on some of the biggest names in hardcore wrestling but this year has once again stepped into the Slave tournament. Last year Terrofyin? beat Sabu, the year before he beat Tommy Dreamer and 2 Tuff Tony, will this year be the year he takes the Slave trophy?

This is an event that wrestling fans do not want to miss. If you can be there live, make it a point to mark your calendars for September 21st as this event has been taped for many years but has not been released anywhere as of press time. For those looking for tickets, send an e-mail to tickets@coloradoindies.com and we will make sure you aren?t left out in the cold for the event as tickets are going fast.
