Harley Race talks Hulk Hogan
Posted: Jun 24th 2014 By: Vic Schiavone
Hosts Jack E. Jones and One Inch Biceps welcomed former 8-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion ?Handsome? Harley Race to IYH Wrestling Radio for his third appearance. Harley was inducted into the New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 21, 2014, and spoke about that among other topics.
Highlights included the following:
* What are your thoughts on Hulk Hogan as a wrestler?
?Well, no matter how you want to word it or how you want to say it, if you?re good enough to get to all the places that Hogan was at you?ve got to be way the hell above average...Hogan gets good and bad raps virtually on a daily basis, but the end product was he was who he was and he would not have gotten there were he incapable of handling the process of getting there and then handling it once after he was there.?
* What was the feeling like when you beat Lou Thesz? record for the number of world title reigns?
?Well, it was a reign that had stood for?a long time, and everybody knew that Lou Thesz, no matter who beat his record was not going to take away anything from his name. I was very very proud to be the person that was capable of doing that, and I made sure that Lou?s name stayed right where it was at even though I had bettered it.?
Other topics discussed included:
* What was it like working for Stu Hart in Stampede Wrestling?
* When he was wrestling in Japan, did he have to get used to the crowds reacting differently then they did in the United States?
* What are his thoughts on CM Punk becoming such a big star since he?s not the WWE?s traditional type of wrestler?
* Have you ever thought of appearing on Legends House on the WWE Network?
* Are there any current wrestlers that particularly impress him?
* What was his favorite town or building he liked to work in the most?
