Spike: Better Or Worse With Misty At Ringside?
Posted: Jun 13th 2014 By: CMBurnham
A pretty girl is like a melody...except in wrestling, where she provides a prominent distraction at ringside.
And, in some case, she can be a distraction for the person she is supposed to be there for.
Since the breakup of the Greenhorns, Spike as been accompanied to the MSWA ring by Misty Lynn. A real-life couple outside the ring, Spike and Misty have become regular partner for Spike's matches. And Spike's success in MSWA as certainly been helped by the encouragement of Misty. But has it also been hindered?
Since entering MSWA, Buster Cherry and Brandon Barricade have focused their attention on Spike. On May 4th, the duo had their first encounter and Barricade had no qualms about getting physical with Misty. His shove of Misty outside the ring brought Spike out. Spike proceeded to chase Cherry around the ring until Barricade caught Spike with a clothesline. The referee ejected Barricade soon after and the tide turned back in the favour of Spike, who ultimately pulled out a victory. But Cherry wasn't through and he executed 2 Fisherman Michinoku Drivers on Spike, prompting Bad Boy to come out and order a rematch for Mid-South Meltdown under No Holds Barred rules.
That match went all over the arena and saw plenty of weapons being used. At one point, both competitors battled into the men's room. But again, a turning point in the match came when Misty Lynn interfered, jumping on Brandon Barricade's back after Barricade broke up a pin attempt by Spike. Barricade dumped her on the ring apron and Cherry then grabbed her and dragged her into the ring, positioning a piece of lumber on two steel chairs and threatening to give Misty what appeared to be another Fisherman Michinoku Driver through that. The time it took for him to set that up allowed Spike to recover and battle for his woman's safety, ultimately using the assembled pieces in the ring for his own good. Two matches and two victories seemed to make it clear that Spike and Cherry's number.
On June 1st, Spike and Buster were both booked, but not against each other. Spike was set to face off against Nathan Estrada. And this time, Misty had someone to watch as well, as she needed to keep her eyes on Estrada's valet, Chelsea. But Cherry and Barricade decided to come out and try to exact some revenge, grabbing Misty and dragging her away from ringside. This prompted Spike to leave and try to rescue Misty, resulting in his being counted out of the match. Bad Boy then arrived and decided to provide some compensation for Spike, putting him in the main event against Les Mayne and Buster Cherry as part of the tournament for the MSWA Mid-South Title. Once again, Cherry and Buster were set to square off, but Bad Boy also attempted to even the odds by ordering Brandon Barricade to be banned from ringside.
This time, it wasn't Barricade or even Cherry who provided the threat to Misty's well-being, it was Chelsea. Barricade obeyed the orders, but Chelsea came out and attacked Misty, battling to the back with her. This took Spike's attention off the match and allowed Mayne to hit a diving headbutt and score the victory to advance in the tournament. Spike was upset, but Cherry was outraged and filmed a promo threatening the entirety of MSWA and especially Bad Boy because of his loss.
So, for the most part, Misty Lynn has not caused Spike to lose matches. But could he have been more decisive in his victories without her at ringside? Would his focus have been better if she had not been there for the Triple Threat? Might it have been Spike advancing in the tournament instead of Les Mayne? All these questions are there for the pondering. Add to that Spike's recent loss in the 6-Man Scramble Match for the ComPro Showtime Title, again with Misty Lynn at ringside. Again, could he have been victorious if he did not need to worry about her? Spike is scheduled to compete in the Sooner Stampede at Saturday's UWE event, with the winner getting an opportunity to face UWE Champion Tim Rockwell at Showdown on September 20th. Will this be Spike's best career opportunity? Or will Misty Lynn once again prove to be the distraction to his career?
