Majestic Runs The Gauntlet, Overcomes Odds To Regain US Title

Majestic Runs The Gauntlet, Overcomes Odds To Regain US Title

The challenge was set before him and Matt Majestic proved that he was up to it.

On March 22nd, it seemed that everything Majestic had fought for had been taken away. The legal shenanigans of Ray Martinez had found a way to take the SRPW United States Title away from Majestic and place it square in the hands of MHM, Inc.

In the course of that, Majestic was provided with a challenge: If he could defeat all three members of MHM, Inc. in individual matches, the title would come back to him. And he began that challenge immediately by pinning K. P. Moore in the main event on March 22.

With one down and two remaining, Majestic followed up by quickly disposing of Alabastair Hunt at the next SRPW event on April 12th. That left Ray Martinez as the sole person for Majestic to get through in order to reclaim that precious title belt. But Martinez was also the most devious and his plans to keep Majestic away from the title belt began almost immediately.

April 26th saw Martinez avoid the SRPW event altogether, leaving K. P. Moore to defend against Trent Calm. But on May 10th, Majestic saw his chance as Martinez stepped into the ring with him for their final match. But interference from Moore brought a disqualification victory for Majestic and despite it being a win, the rules for title changes were still upheld. Majestic had to beat Martinez by pinfall or submission, so Majestic was denied the opportunity to put the championship around his waist one more time.

SRPW commissioner Bobby Burns would make sure that this would not be the case on May 31st. He ordered that the match be a No DQ match to ensure a decisive ending and he banned the other members of MHM, Inc. from ringside. With no one to call on for help, Martinez now had to face a determined Majestic on his own. But Martinez had a few toys to help him in the form of cookie sheets, chairs and even a pool noodle! No matter what Martinez used, it did little to dissuade Majestic, who simply continued to do whatever he could to gain the upper hand.

Then, the turning point, as Majestic had finally put Martinez down for the count, the referee went down and counted 2, then stopped counting and clutched his shoulder. At that point, referee Mark Viper entered the ring and began to yell at the assigned official, saying that he was not a real SRPW referee. The in-ring referee (who bore a striking resemblance to Jonathon Finkelstein, the lawyer for MHM, Inc.) began to physically intimidate Viper and a referee brawl erupted in the ring, resulting in the Finkelstein look-alike being knocked out of the ring. Majestic was quick to reassert control, delivering a Booty Call to Martinez, followed by a Belly-To-Belly suplex for the win. As "Real American" played, Majestic celebrated, standing proud to represent the United States in SRPW.

Majestic was not able to duplicate the success the following week in ComPro, falling short of winning the 6-Man Scramble match for the ComPro Showtime Title. But Majestic certainly has set his eyes on that coveted belt as well. Between defending the United States Title and trying to win the Showtime Title, Majestic looks to be just as focused in the second half of 2014 as he was during the first.
