Review of Timeline History of WWE 1984 with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper

Kayfabe Commentaries has topped themselves once more with Roddy Piper?s appearance.
I have been doing wrestler interviews since 2002 and I am always asked who my favorite personality to speak with was. I usually give a different answer each time but the one person who I was in awe of how open and honest he was, would be WWE HOF?er ?ROWDY? RODDY PIPER. We met up at a charity event in 2006 and thanks to a mutual friend I was able to score the conversation. In 1984 there was no one hated in the World Wrestling Federation than the ?Hot Scot? and he shared a locker room with Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, ?Mr. Wonderful? Paul Orndorff and Big John Studd. He was the perfect foil for the newly crowned WWF World champion ?the Incredible? Hulk Hogan. Sean Oliver and KAYFABE COMMENTARIES gave TIMELINE: HISTORY OF THE WWE 1984 2 discs to cover everything.
As I mentioned on January 23, 1984 ?Hulkamania? was launched when Hogan defeated the Iron Sheik in Madison Square Garden. Around that time Piper came in from Jim Crockett Promotions as a manager to Orndorff and ?Cowboy? Bob Orton. From that point until his ?retirement? at WrestleMania III, Piper would be in the main event scene. With two discs and three hours and thirty minutes to use, Sean and Roddy cover lots of things including:
The famous Coconut incident with ?Superfly? Jimmy Snuka, The arrivals of Orndorff, Bobby ?the Brain? Heenan, Orton, ?Mean? Gene Okerlund, Brutus Beefcake, Junkyard Dog, George Scott (as an assistant booker), David Sammartino (w/Bruno on commentary), the Fabulous Freebirds (who leave just as quickly), ?Luscious? Johnny Valiant (as a manager), Rick McGraw (RIP a year or two later), David Schultz smacking John Stossel on ABC News? 20/20 and the launch of the ?Rock N Wrestling? storyline with Cyndi Lauper on December 28th in MSG, the return of Blackjack Mulligan to the promotion, the departure of Bob Backlund, and the deaths of Vince J McMahon, David Von Erich, the Stampede Wrestling promotion (Stu Hart), Maple Leaf Wrestling (Jack Tunney) while NWA and AWA launch the Pro Wrestling USA debacle involving a certain current WWE executive.
Roddy Piper has one of the smartest minds in and out of wrestling I have ever met. Like I say sometimes about legends, he has forgotten more about the wrestling business than I will ever know. I remember sitting with Mr. Piper and noticed he wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to talking about fallen comrades.
He is very sentimental about Von Erich?s passing and the hard living lifestyle he lived with Orton, Don Muraco, Adrian Adonis and others. Piper goes into detail on the creation of the legendary ?Piper?s Pit? and visits by Bruno Sammartino & Frankie Williams? to the Pit. Who knew it wasn?t until October of 1984 to see the first Piper/Hogan matchup.
Piper gives a great view of the road that led to ?the War to Settle the Score? and eventually WrestleMania 1. Also given is a look forward to his 1987 exit to make ?John Carpenter?s They Live? and WWE?s reaction to him doing the film. Kayfabe Commentaries has topped themselves once more with Roddy Piper?s appearance in this acclaimed series.
Next to be released by www.KayfabeCommentaries.com are Guest Booker: Screwing Bret with Bruce Pritchard (May 13), Timeline: History of ECW 2000-2001 with Justin Credible (June 3) and 1992 with Bret ?Hitman?
