Jim Ross moves to boxing announcing

Posted: May 10th 2014 By: www.f4wrestling.com

Jim Ross announced on Twitter last last night that he will be doing the announcing of a Golden Boy Live Fox Sports 1 pro boxing show on Memorial Day from El Paso, TX.

Ross had been in talks with FS 1 for at least a week or two about taking the gig, with FS 1 hoping that the media exposure would create more interest in the show, which goes head-to-head with Raw on 5/26.

Ross was interested in doing other sports to break the stigma that he's a pro wrestling announcer, although football and MMA were probably higher on his list than pro boxing. Ross has followed boxnig since the days of Friday night fights in the 60s, and will likely use his friendship with Mauro Ranallo, who started as a pro wrestling announcer and now is the voice of the biggest boxing matches in the world with Showtime, for preparation.

Rene Alvarado of Nicaragua will defend the WBC super featherweight title against local star Rocky Juarez in the main event on a show that, to commemorate Memorial Day, will feature U.S. Army boxers in several undercard matches.

The show will have a unique atmosphere, designed to emulate UFC's Fight for the Troops shows as it will be held at Fort Bliss in El Paso. All tickets are free, but only members of the military will be allowed to attend the show.
