Here are some of the highlights from the interview, provided by The Mayhem's co-host, The Big Mosh, & Mayhem listener, PWUSandman41.
======================================================================
"Dr. Death" Steve Williams was welcomed by The Mayhem Crew, and after some 2007 NFL Draft discussion (including Steve's thoughts on Adrian Peterson's future with the Minnesota Vikings), we were off & running.
*Steve has just celebrated 2 1/2 years of being cancer free after a recent check-up in Houston TX, and has been spending his recent free time doing some signings of his autobiography, "How Dr. Death Became Dr. Life" (which you can purchase online at his official website: OklaStamped.com, and his official MySpace page: MySpace.com/DrDeathSW).
*He has gotten plenty of support from the fans, as well as his friends in the business. Steve was very pleased that the WWE put up an e-mail address on their website, so that the fans could get in contact with him with their get-well wishes.
*Some of the critics out there were slightly negative at first, because he didn't get very negative on Vince, and chose not to badmouth him. The main purpose of his book was to uplift anybody who chose to read it, not to hurt anyone. His book is "the real deal," and not fake.
* He has been given a job down in Ohio Valley Wrestling by the WWE doing some training with the younger developmental talent, and possibly might be spending some time in Tampa as part of Steve Keirn's school in Florida. With the flexibility of his schedule in doing this, he has been given the opportunity to continue to preach on the weekends (which he says is better than doing any drugs or drinking alcohol) and spend time with God, who has helped him get through his bout with cancer.
*Steve had a "funny feeling" that something was going to happen with Deep South. He feels that Vince McMahon has to continue to run the WWE like a "tight ship," and that these things will happen as a result of a lot of the bs in the business. Even after spending close to 30 years in professional wrestling, he feels he himself is still learning every day -- exactly how a lot of the young guys are doing so as well. Steve wishes he had the opportunity to participate in the various camps/training sessions out there today, but he was just used to stepping in the ring and "beating the crap out of everyone."
*Steve strongly believes that "less still means more" when it comes to the business today, that "the old style still gets over." The marquee still says wrestling, and that's what most of the fans come to see.
*Within the past few years, he made a few pitches to the WWE about bringing back "the gangs/ratpacks," with him being a manager of a faction of younger guys, which he would have loved to take part in. Unfortunately, one of the WWE's "Hollywood writers" shot it down.
*Steve would love to see the WWE have a tag team tournament, just like Giant Baba did. The scene is not as exciting as it was when he tagged up with Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy against The Steiner Brothers, but he seems optimistic that if certain things are done, that could change in the right direction.
*He is in discussions with releasing some of his past matches in Japan & overseas on DVD.
*Steve feels that both "Stone Cold" Steve Austin & The Rock were huge stars, and that it might be some time before the WWE sees talent such as those two. He is very happy for the company though, as their DVD library (focusing on a lot of the glory days, such as WCW & ECW) is making them plenty of money, but also showing "who paved the way for the younger guys of today."
*He is proud to be a part of the upcoming "real" Hall Of Fame ceremonies in Waterloo, IA this upcoming July.
*When it came to WCW making fun of Jim Ross & the "Oklahoma" angle, he knew that J.R. would not be mad at him personally for doing it -- based on the fact he had to take care of his family & pay his bills.
*If he had another opportunity to do the "Brawl for All," he would do it again. Believe it or not, he was promised a six-month run with Steve Austin if he took part in this. He was disappointed that this never came to fruition.
*In closing, he said he wants the fans to remember "Dr. Death" as someone who gave 100%, didn't give up, and did it for the fans.
*An almost 45-minute interview with "Dr. Death," in which Steve gave his takes on exactly why he thinks Vince McMahon is a "genius," training Bobby Lashley, his comeback at WrestleReunion two summers ago, working in Japan vs. America, & a very emotional shoot on WCW & J.J. Dillon that makes this interview a must-listen.
*Tune in this upcoming Monday night, as The Mayhem will have a complete & in-depth preview of next Sunday night's TNA Sacrifice Pay-Per-View, all of the latest on the this Tuesday night's Mr. McMahon/Rob Van Dam ECW Championship match & the killing of the December To Dismember PPV (w/ former "extreme" official & The Monster Factory's Jim Molineaux), as well as all of the fallout from Ring Of Honor's move to Pay-Per-View (w/ Figure Four Weekly's Dr. Keith Lipinski).
We invite you fans to e-mail the program at MondayNightMayhem@hotmail.com, take part in the interactive chat room & The Mayhem Message Board (both located at MondayNightMayhem.com), as well as visiting The Mayhem on MySpace (at MySpace.com/MondayNightMayhem) if you wish to interact with The Mayhem Crew as well.
All new & old Mayhem listeners can still check out the archived programs/shows of "Your Home Of Wrestling Radio" (including the voice of Monday Night RAW himself/WWE Hall Of Famer, Jim Ross, WWE Diva, Candice Michelle, TNA President, Dixie Carter, Danny Doring's first post-WWE interview, Diana Hart Smith, "The Mouth Of The South" Jimmy Hart, "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal, & the official Monday Night Mayhem WrestleMania 23 Countdown Special from Detroit's Hilton Garden Inn)...now available on MondayNightMayhem.com, ObsessedWithWrestling.com, Showdown.net, & AudioWrestling.com. And remember, you can feel The Mayhem (live & worldwide) each & every Monday night on The Monday Night Mayhem Radio Network. Don't forget to stay tuned to The Mayhem beginning on June 4th, as "The Summer Of Mayhem 2007" begins -- complete with the show moving to its new timeslot, 8PM ET/7PM CT!
We will see everyone this upcoming Monday night (beginning at 9PM ET/8PM CT), as "The Road To Sacrifice" goes though "Your Home Of Wrestling Radio," Monday Night Mayhem.
