Brian Blade's Blog: Top Money Making Feuds That Should Have Happened, But Didn't

All the feuds that I will talk about are feuds that could have actually happened, not fantasy feuds like Hogan - Thesz. These will all be feuds that could have happened and would have made huge amounts of money.

We will start with some Hulk Hogan feuds that would have made money and been a lot of fun.

1. Hogan v. Superstar Billy Graham - In 84-85 Graham was still around and if he could have been motivated, imagine the talking that would have gone on. These 2 would have talked you into the arena and into buying a PPV to see who the real deal was. The matches wouldn't have been 5 star classics, but they would have been very good. How many times could they have sold out the Garden?

2. Hogan v. Jake "the snake" Roberts - pure good v. pure evil. This could have been a great psychological feud. Who wouldn't have gone to the events to watch the evil Snake get beat down by their hero. This would have been pure money. Jake would have pushed all the right buttons and Hulk would give him the beating he deserved in the end. Another PPV gold mine here.

3. Hogan v. The Undertaker - They did have a few matches, but never a real rivalry. These two could have had a feud that lasted for a whole yr. It just wasn't meant to be. Timing during each of Hogans runs that overlapped Undertaker was wrong. Hogan facing not just a big monster, but facing a bigger, younger, more athletic monster.

4. Hogan v. Brett Hart - Another feud where the timing just didn't seem right. A pro Canadian Bret v. American Hero Hogan, or hero Bret v. anti hero, NWO Hogan. It never materialized the way it should have. The technician v. the charismatic powerhouse. What a fun rivalry done either way. Either one could have been the face and made this a great run.

5. Hogan v. Backlund - In 84-85 you could have had a bitter ex champ who never got a rematch, come after the new hip, muscle bound champ. Backlund - Hogan may not have sold out nationwide, but up and down the east coast it would have filled every house. These two could have some very good bouts and if they gave Bob a manager like Bobby the Brain or Freddie Blassie, it would have sold.

6. Hogan v. Austin - too bad Hogan didn't come back to WWE in 2001, before Austin was hurt.

7. Hogan v. Bruiser Brody - this almost happened, but Brody wanted more money from the stories I have found. In the Mid 80's this would have been huge, both men were known throughout the US and in Japan.

Now lets look at some other ones that over the yrs would have made companies a lot of cash. There is no order here, just some great food for thought.

1. Backlund v. Sammartino - New Champ v. Old Champ - very simple formula. Could have also been done with Backlund - Morales or Sammartino - Morales - not just one match, a string of matches would have been great in the mid to late 70's or even early 80's would have sold out.

2. Austin v. Goldberg - If Vince could have gotten Bill under contract sooner, imagine what would have been here. Two icons of the time going at it. Would have been tremendous.

3. The Midnight Rockers v. The Rock-N-Roll Express - in 1986 the girls would have went crazy for this one. This would have been great in any company, no two teams could garner sympathy from the fans like these two, this would have been classic.

4. The Rock v. Shawn Michaels - This would have been pure gold. Both great on the mic and both great in the ring.

5. Sting v. Austin, Rock, Undertaker, HHH, Shawn Micheals - Sting in the WWE against many opponents would have been money, hopefully we get one run from him before it is over.

6. Curt Hennig v. Hogan/NWO - If they had not turned Hennig heel in the WarGames match this could have been gold. Hennig was a great wrestler that people were getting behing. Hennig and Flair leading WCW in the war would have kept the spark instead of letting it fizzle out because everyone was in the NWO.

7. Nick Bockwinkle v. Ric Flair - two different organizations World Champions and two of the best wrestlers ever. These matches would have sold anywhere, and their promos would have been money.

Let me know if you can think of more. They have to be feuds that could have actually happened though. You cannot cross eras. Think about what you would have wanted to see and if it would have made money.
