Brotherly Bond Makes Syndicate Inseparable
Posted: Feb 9th 2014 By: CMBurnham
The bond of family is one of the strongest in professional wrestling. And while sometimes that bond can be severed (as with the father-son team of Prone To Violence, documented in a recent article), some bonds almost seem to transcend the squared circle.
SWCW Tag Team Champions The Syndicate are the longest lasting tag team in Oklahoma today. The twin brothers have captured tag team gold wherever they have been and it seems that, as other teams come and go, this team would continue to mow down the competition.
But recent events at the MSWA shows made fans question that bond, thanks to Bobby Starr. After the MSWA "Justice" event, Bobby Starr, who was unsuccessful at recapturing the MSWA Oklahoma Title, turned his back in the fans. He said that he had tried to listen to them, but from that point on, he would only listen to the gods. This brought Scott Sanders out, who said that Bobby needed to grow up and accept responsibility for his actions. And he offered to teach him that responsibility in a one-on-one match. Starr accepted and gained a cheap victory by school boying Sanders and placing his feet on the ropes for extra leverage.
Two weeks later, Sanders demanded a rematch and Starr accepted. This time, Scott was prepared for the underhanded tactics of Starr and could counter most them. This made Starr desperate and he grabbed his scepter and struck Scott with it, earning a DQ loss. The beat down continued until Scott's brother Shawn came from the back and Starr quickly retreated out of the ring. The Syndicate stood proud...but then Shawn shocked the assembled crowd by turning on his brother and laying him out. Then, in an image that could only have come from Bizarro World, Shawn Sanders lowered himself to one knee and offered homage to Bobby Starr, taking a blonde wig and adorning his head with it. Somehow, Starr had gotten inside Shawn Sanders' head and had ended the run of the twin brothers as a tag team.
But that wasn't the last twist in this unbelievable saga. On January 25, the newly christened "Fallen Star" Shawn Sanders accompanied Bobby Starr to the ring to face Drake Gallows. But Starr took the microphone and said the gods told him that this would be a great opportunity for Sanders, so a last minute substitution was in the books. Gallows adapted quickly and was able to overcome the sudden bait-and-switch, winning the match with a schoolboy. And to no one's surprise, Starr and Shawn Sanders double-teamed Gallows after the match until Scott Sanders ran down to even the odds. With the sides suddenly equal, Shawn and Starr quickly escaped to the outside. Scott helped Gallows to his feet and it appeared that an impromptu tag team match might be occurring...but then Scott leveled Gallows and history repeated itself as Scott Sanders accepted a blonde wig from Starr and the Syndicate stood proud with Bobby Starr.
By aligning himself with this tag team, Starr now has backup that he has always been lacking. And The Syndicate have some fresh motivation to recapture the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team titles. But the threesome have quickly made some enemies. In addition to Drake Gallows, Scott Sanders picked up a victory over SWCW All-American Champion Tyson Jaymes, then a triple team after the match could possibly have put him out, but the Greenhorns came to his rescue. It seems possible that this newly formed faction may need all the power of whatever gods they believe in to fend off the opponents they will be facing soon.
