Justice Denied For Damon Windsor
Posted: Dec 9th 2013 By: CMBurnham
2013 has been one of the most frustrating years for Damon Windsor as it represents both massive accomplishment and massive failure.
On one hand, Windsor once again asserted himself as a major singles competitor, something that hadnt been true since 2009 when he held the SWCW Title. Windsor now stands as top contender to both the MSWA Mid-South and IZW Titles.
On the other and, the same man stands in his way to both titles: Johnny Z. And Z has made it very clear that there are no depths he will not sink to in order to retain his titles.
At Halloween Hangover, Johnny Z unveiled is alliance with Mark Wilson and prevented Windsor from winning a Casket Match in order to claim the IZW Title. That was the culmination of Windsor pursuing Z and it appeared it would be his final title opportunity until Windsor interrupted a contract singing between Z and Copycat for an IZW title match at Chaotic Christmas and signed the contract, essentially interjecting himself into that championship opportunity.
The road to the MSWA Mid-South Title as been a little more convoluted. Windsor earned the title opportunity by winning a Battle Royal on August 25th. Windsor then spent the next 3 months dealing with various members of Impact, Inc., including winning a gauntlet match against Mark Wilson, IZW & MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champion Jermaine Johnson and MSWA Oklahoma & IZW Impact Division Champion Kevin Morgan. But it was a tag team match pitting Z & Mark Wilson against Windsor & Bad Boy that showed just how low Johnny Z would sink. As Windsor prepared to chokeslam Wilson, Z, who had been thrown to the outside, gained Windsors attention and then kicked Windsor's valet, AnnaLynn Storm, straight in the face! Windsor was completely distraught and rushed to Storms aid while Wilson schoolboyed Bad Boy for the win.
So Windsor was certainly motivated as he could gain both the MSWA title AND get revenge for Z's actions. And it seemed that Windsor was certainly on track to capture that title as AnnaLynn Storm yanked Erica down from the ring apron and Z missed the Big Boot in the corner. Getting desperate, Z resorted to a low blow on Windsor, hoping to retain the title via DQ, but referee Brock Landers, understanding the importance of the contest, refused to allow Z to escape with the title that way. Z bean arguing with Landers, insisting that the match be thrown out on a DQ and Landers continued to refuse. So, seeing no other option that worked to his benefit, Z kicked Landers below the belt! Landers went down, but Windsor then connected with the choke slam and pinned the champion. Landers then signaled for the bell and Windsor was elated, believing that he had finally ascended the mountaintop. But in reality, Landers had DQed Z, so Windsor won the match, but did not leave the ring as champion.
In all honesty, Windsor should have expected this outcome as a possibility, as Z resorted to the same tactics at IZWs Redemption event in September. The good news for Windsor is that Windsor DID win the match, so another title opportunity seems in line for him. So, as 2014 comes to pass, its possible that Windsor could still achieve the dream of bein double champion.
And THAT would be justice for him.
