WWE Never Say Never: Possibility of Goldberg in a WrestleMania XXX Match

WWE recently aired promos for a forthcoming DVD set dedicated to the career of Bill Goldberg. Goldberg was one of the biggest stars in WCW history, defined by his undefeated streak that stretched out to 173-0.

Goldberg's eventual downfall in WCW was followed, rather quickly, by the collapse of the company itself. He was never able to recapture that same magic once his mystique was broken for the first time, even after a high-profile debut with the WWE two years after WCW folded.

Through his anthology DVD, Goldberg is set to reemerge in the conscience of a pro wrestling fanbase that is unapologetically nostalgic to begin with.

Given WWE's recent surge of bad ratings, the proximity of the WrestleMania XXX season and Ryback, his timing couldn't be any better.

Goldberg hasn't had the nicest things to say about high-ranking WWE executive, and heir apparent, Triple H.

Earlier this year, the former phenom was asked whom he would spear if given the opportunity to do so to anyone. He answered accordingly:

The fearless Fed-bashing didn't end there. When asked when he would return to the WWE, Goldberg took an unflattering, thinly veiled shot at management:

Of course burning bridges is an art form only Jim Cornette and precious few others have perfected in WWE history. In fact, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported WWE officials continue to kick around the idea of a Goldberg return for WrestleMania XXX.

A would-be return for the Georgia product should not surprise anybody, especially given the "Goldberg" chants that follow once-rising star Ryback.

With every passing week, the sarcastic "Goldberg" chants resemble the pink elephant in the arena. Sooner or later, Ryback must confront this situation head on.

WWE's icy relationship with Goldberg, coupled with the tension that the off-script chants create, prohibit any form of acknowledgement of the chants from WWE announcers. As a result, that pink elephant just keeps growing.

Mockery is best alleviated through self-deprecation, which takes away all the fun. A Ryback-Goldberg program would be a shrewd acknowledgement of the very mockery that has plagued Ryback. Once the program is blown off, preferably with a Ryback victory, we can all move on.

Goldberg's presence in the WWE wouldn't be seen as a random act of desperation to jump a buyrate. This thing has been brewing both on and off camera.

Back in August, Goldberg, seemingly in going-into-business-for-himself mode, said the following about Ryback, per Daily Wrestling News:

If I was Ryback or whatever his name is, and I'm not going to be sitting here on my high-horse, but hey man, you have to look in the mirror and thank God that they are comparing him to me. I got more talent in one finger than that punk has in his entire body.

I have at 46-years-old more presence than he could have in his entire life. The only reason I'm adamantly antagonized is because he has opened his mouth a couple of times as of late. I guess he was over in Europe and said he took a big Goldberg or something.

Ryback too has acknowledged the Goldberg comparisons during various interview circuits, and the entire situation seems primed to culminate in a WrestleMania-sized showdown that would, at the very least, keep Ryback relevant.

The past few WrestleManias have given fans the returns of The Rock, Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho to name a few.

So who's next? The question virtually answers itself.
