Dusty Rhodes to Wrestle at Battleground?
Posted: Sep 17th 2013 By: mikeiles
Two weeks ago on Raw, Cody Rhodes engaged in a conversation with then-WWE champion Randy Orton and COO Triple H. The discussion led to Triple H being unhappy about not being invited to Rhodes' upcoming wedding.
All of a sudden, Rhodes' job was on the line, and he was forced to try to defeat Orton to save his employment. Unfortunately, he did not win, and he was "fired."
A week later on Raw, Cody's brother, former WWE intercontinental and tag team champion Goldust, faced Orton. If he had won, his brother would have been reinstated. Despite a valiant effort and "You still got it!" chants, Goldust fell short. Backstage, Stephanie McMahon began to demean Goldust, and he joined his brother in the unemployment line.
To add to the storyline, Stephanie offered Dusty Rhodes an invitation to Raw to discuss a proposal, which Dusty accepted.

. @WWEDustyRhodes please accept this invitation to attend RAW this Monday in Cleveland. I have a business proposition for you. Thank you.

I am not beyond discussing "business"...I will see you in Cleveland @StephMcMahon #RAW
Emotions ran high during Raw, and Dusty refused the proposal, which was choosing either Cody Rhodes or Goldust to be reinstated in the WWE.
Because of his indecisiveness, he then was forced to choose between a KO punch from Big Show or being "dismembered" by the Shield. A reluctant Big Show made the decision for Dusty and knocked him out.
It appears the drama is it not over. In fact, according to F4WOnline (via WrestlingInc.), there may be a six-man match at the next pay-per-view, Battleground.
Yep, that means good ol' Dusty will be back in the saddle.
While it's not official, this would be a good way to bring both Cody Rhodes and Goldust back. Moreover, it could allow the Rhodes brothers to be affiliated until WrestleMania XXX.
Picture this: The Rhodes family wins the match, and they get their jobs back. Goldust and Cody become a short-lived tag team, continuing their feud with The Shield by winning the tag team title. Eventually, they lose the title, but Cody is ready to be a top face and vie for the World Heavyweight Championship by this time. Rhodes wins the championship with Goldust by his side.
All of a sudden, during a match in which Cody is defending the title, Goldust turns on Cody, becoming a heel. Goldust then begins talking about how much their father favored Cody and how he has never forgiven Cody for that. This leads to a Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust match at WrestleMania XXX, with Dusty as the special referee.
Good idea? Sound off (civilly) below, and tune in to the Pancakes and Powerslams show this Tuesday night (September 17) at 11 p.m. ET on Blog Talk Radio. We'll discuss this saga further, as well as the disappointment of Night of Champions. Call in live with your thoughts.
