Disputed Stampede Ending A Slap To The Face Of Former Champion
Posted: Sep 12th 2013 By: CMBurnham
For a former ComPro Champion, ComPro Tag Team Champion Richie Adams certainly has trouble gaining respect.
Most notably, Adams is looking for respect from another former ComPro Champion, Dutch Hagen. Hagen has been dismissive of Adams for several months now, ever since Hagen was defeated by the returning Justin Lee back in June. But things certainly escalated this past week during the annual Oklahoma Stampede.
Traditionally, the Stampede is held to determine a #1 contender to the ComPro Title. And that was the case this year as well. But at the beginning of the show, Adams uncharacteristically interrrupted ring announcer C. M. Burnham. Adams declared that Dutch Hagen not only did not respect him, but he refused to take Adams seriously. Adams promised to make everyone take him seriously by winning the Oklahoma Stampede and then slapping Hagen in the face.
It would be a tough promise to keep as Adams was the 6th man to enter the Oklahoma Stampede. Additionally, Adams had already competed earlier in the show, defending the ComPro Tag Team Titles with Terry Montana against The Swamp Men. While it was a successful defence, a post-match attack by the Brotherhood of Mayhem did not favours for Adams in allowing him to enter the Stampede at 100%. Hagen, on the other hand, did not have a match to worry about earlier. Plus, he as fortunate to enter at # 12 (out of a total of 15) after many of the combatants had been eliminated.
The final 4 combatants in the Stampede were Hagen, Adams, Jake O'Brien and ComPro Oklahoma X Division Champion Ignition. Jake was quickly disposed of and then, in a surreal moment, Adams & Hagen teamed up to eliminate Ignition from the match. Then, the pace of the match changed as both me settled in for a long battle. Hagen appeared to have the upper hand, but instead of pressing the issue, called for a microphone and demanded OWA & ComPro Champion The Canadian Red Devil come to the ring to witness his victory. Hagen even provided a chair for CRD to sit in. CRD appeared confused, but took the seat. However, victory was not as close to Hagen's grasp as he believed. Both men ended up on the ring apron after going over the top rope. After some verbal taunting, CRD could not remain seated any longer and delivered an enziguri to Hagen, who collided with Adams and both men fell to the floor.
But which man hit first? Sadly, referee Chance Snodgrass was unable to determine that and ComPro commissioner Mike Iles arrived to address the situation. Iles was irate that the Devil had interfered, but was also upset that no clear winner could be determined. So, he declared that on October 4, Adams and Hagen would face each other and the winner of that match would be the #1 contender to the ComPro Title. Additionally, for his actions, CRD would receive some sort of punishment, though the nature of that has yet to be announced.
So Adams must now wait one month. One more month to earn his respect. One more month to deliver on his promise to Hagen. And one more month to finally earn a shot at the title he has not held for over 3 years. If Adams can accomplish all that, it will be the biggest slap to the face Dutch Hagen ever received.
