Michael Barry made his first visit to the "Greg DeMarco Show", discussing his inspirations to enter professional wrestling, the talent he?s been able to share the ring with in Traditional Championship Wrestling, TCW?s growth into new markets and onto the Pursuit Network, TCW?s "Tennessee Takeover" card and so much more. WWE held a tryout camp which started Wednesday at their Performance Center in Orlando, FL. There were two sessions Wednesday and a long session Thursday. Bill DeMott ran the camp and judges included Joey Mercury, Norman Smiley, Terry Taylor, Gerald Brisco, and William Regal. There were about 30 guys in the camp. According to reports, Eddie Edwards stood out above everyone, followed by Davey Richards.
The Jerry Lawler Museum opened at the Resorts Casino in Tunica, MS on August 24th. Lawler brought his recently purchased Batmobile from the "Batman" television series, which aired from 1966 to 1968.
Jerry Lawler posted some info on Twitter about an upcoming Memphis Power Wrestling event in Tunica, MS. He posted "Over 20 Classic Memphis Wrestling Superstars reunite for Unfinished Business at Resorts Casino September 13 pic.twitter.com/qhmF2za6iV" and "The King reunites with Bill Dundee, Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton the Rock n Roll Express Sept. 13 pic.twitter.com/Q2GVuc5TIa". In a post on his Facebook account, Mick Foley defended the Bella Twins after AJ Lee?s rant against them (and the other Divas) last night on RAW. He wrote "It?s been a memorable Raw; an intense and disturbing physical encounter between Paul Heyman and CM Punk, a tremendous match-up between Christian and Randy Orton..and the looming danger to Orton?s new Escalade (which, as of this writing, is still unscathed.) So why is it that I?m writing this post about the Divas division, feeling as if I need to intervene and stick up for Bri and Nikki Bella ? two young ladies who seem more than capable of sticking up for themselves? First, before I speak up for the Bellas, how about I acknowledge that AJ Lee delivered one of the finest promos ? male or female ? that I?ve seen on Raw in quite a while. That?s really saying something, considering that Paul Heyman and CM Punk have been doing some of their finest mic work on the show on a regular basis, and that Daniel Bryan has been (wait, the Escalade just got spray-painted) an absolute joy to watch, as he finds new depth in his persona on an almost weekly basis. Yes, that was an amazing promo by AJ ? primarily because she believed every word of it to be true..or at least it seemed that way to this 28 year wrestling veteran. After all, going back to the lessons I learned from Michael PS Hayes, a heel is always at their most believable and frightening and believable when they absolutely believe in their own words and actions. AJ?s words were convincing and seem to be the ones being embraced by the WWE Universe. I know many people look at Bri and Nikki and see two beautiful women who have been given their spot in the company due to their beauty and choice in boyfriends. That's not what I see when I look at Bri and Nikki. I see two strong, proud women who walked away from WWE in April 2012 following a legitimate business disagreement with the company. Bri and Nikki wanted to have more say in what they could and could not do outside of WWE. The company disagreed. I know that feeling. I?ve been there. The Bellas took a stand and walked away. I know that feeling too. But they didn?t do it the Mick Foley way ? whining and complaining, and (ask Layla about this sometime) even yelling a little bit. They did it the right way. They took a stand, did everything they were asked to do, and left with their heads held high; earning a heightened respect from everyone they dealt with on their way out. And when they returned, they came back with a piece of the puzzle that had been missing from the Divas division. They returned with ?Total Divas? ? the vehicle the entire Divas division has driven to new heights of acceptance and mainstream recognition. I?ve often wondered why AJ wasn?t part of the show. Obviously, she?s a unique character and an extremely talented wrestler. I would have really enjoyed the opportunity to see her outside the ring ? to see how much AJ the performer and AJ the character had in common. I could completely understand any hard feelings she might harbor against the Bellas in that regard. But the idea that the Bellas haven?t worked for everything they?ve received is just plain wrong from this Hall of Famer?s perspective.?
Ric Flair recently appeared on Steve Austin's podcast. In part two of the interview, which was released last week, Flair was asked about his time in TNA. While Flair admitted that working with TNA President Dixie Carter was "great," he wasn't that bullish about the company's future. "I don't think much longer," Flair replied, after Austin asked how much longer the company could stay in business. "They're making live TV now. Her [Dixie Carter] father's tremendously wealthy, but at some point of time, you've gotta say man," to which Austin added, "a write-off becomes a loss." You can listen to Ric Flair on "The Steve Austin Show" by clicking here.
Ric Flair?s blood clots in his leg returned, although he?s saying it?s not as bad as before. His reps have told those who he has dates with in the next few weeks that he can?t risk flying distances and would have to cancel, reports The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Ted DiBiase has addressed his son?s decision not to re-up with WWE on his official website. DiBiase said that Ted Jr.?s decision wasn?t due to problems with WWE but rather a matter of wanting to spend time with his family. He wrote ?As many of you know, my son, Ted Jr. has decided not to re-sign with the WWE. His decision is not based on dissatisfaction with the WWE, but a decision based on not wanting to spend so much of his life away from his family. I applaud that decision. As much as I loved the wrestling business, being away from my family and the temptations that come along with it, nearly destroyed me and my family. I never wanted my sons to be in the business for that very reason. But I knew that I had to let them find out for themselves. The birth of Ted?s first son, did just that. Yes, I still love wrestling and so does Ted Jr. But, ?Everything has a price!? My son learned more quickly than I did, that the price of fame is often far greater than the rewards!!? Ted Jr. has accepted an executive position with CollegeGarageSale.com, a subsidiary of Jackson, MS based BFAC, LLC.
NXT wrestler Ryan Drago has been renamed Simon Gotch. That is a spoof on Dean Malenko (real name Dean Simon) and Karl Gotch.
After his UFC fight at the press conference Saturday night, Josh Barnett, when thanking his trainers, mentioned Billy Robinson and Karl Gotch. His rough submission game, which he actually didn't use to beat Frank Mir, comes partially from the Wigan, England style of submissions that Gotch and Robinson later taught.
Hulk Hogan returned to "Impact Wrestling" on Thursday night but made a major blunder during his segment that was left unedited since there was no time to edit between the taped show and the live airing. In the final segment of the show, Hogan confronted TNA World Champion Bully Ray who was given the news that he has to face a member of Aces and Eights in two weeks at the "No Surrender" themed "Impact Wrestling" and that the match would be for the TNA World Title. Besides that, Hogan told Ray that he has to defend the TNA Title against Sting on the next show. The problem is that Sting lost a match a few months ago which prevents him from ever competing for the TNA World Title again. Hogan by mistake also said "this week" rather than "next week" when he announced Sting vs. Bully Ray. While on television the mistakes were not addressed, the TNA website removed any mentions of Sting going for the title on next week's show.
TNA has advertised Bully Ray defending the TNA World Title against A. J. Styles in the main event on Saturday in Woodstock, VA. If you recall, there was a TV match a year ago where Styles couldn't get another title shot at the big belt which was the catalyst for his new character that went nowhere. That year has yet to expire.
According to PWInsider.com, former world champion A. J. Styles and TNA have agreed to some form of contract extension. No details have been made available, but his contract was set to expire in weeks. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that the company had wanted Styles to accept a pay cut to remain with TNA.
A. J. Styles signed a three-month contract extension with TNA. The promo on "Impact Wrestling" was something he came up with and wrote to explain his character change over the past year, and not something that TNA had any input into. Reports from the building are that the crowd turning on him was worse live than it sounded on TV.
The Ministry of Slam did a 24 hour Cystic Fibrosis benefit podcast Monday with merchandise auctioned off and taped interviews with some of the biggest names in wrestling including Chris Jericho, Dixie Carter, Bully Ray, Gail Kim, Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts, Dallas Page, and Nigel McGuinness.
