No Bull! Schmitt Happens In BPPW Ring!
Posted: Jun 20th 2013 By: CMBurnham
Periodically, old faces come out of the woodwork and reassert themselves on the Oklahoma wrestling scene.
One of the ones to do so recently is Bull Schmitt. Schmitt, who hails from Coffeyville, KS, has spent much of the past 10 years absent from Oklahoma rings. He did make an appearance at the WFC event in February to address an issue with UWE Tag Team Champion Robert Lee, a man Schmitt helped train. And Schmitt returned the favour by inviting many Oklahoma talents to his Hometown Heroes event on June 9.
Brandon Groom was one of the people who came up around Schmitt in OPW. And while they were not typically affiliated with each other, that bond meant something to Groom. So imagine his surprise when SRPW Womens Champion B-Arthur unveiled Schmitt as his newest client at the BPPW event on June 14. For much of his time in Oklahoma, Schmitt was an imposing-but-fair-minded competitor. Now, it appeared that the almighty dollar had grabbed ahold of the soul of Schmitt. So Groom put aside any past friendships and prepared for a fight. It was certainly hard hitting action as Groom was forced to tap into his amateur background and natural strength to counter the size and power of Schmitt. And the presence of Arthur at ringside was also a constant issue Groom had to keep in the back of his head. What Groom may not have counted on was the OTHER acquisition Arthur made: The Asian Triad. And as Groom appeared to be getting the upper hand on, The Triad burst on the scene, ambushing Groom in a continuance of an issue stemming from the last BPPW event. Arthur announced that Groom would be facing all 3 members of the Asian Triad in the main event and as far as he was concerned, it could be a 3-on1 Handicap match unless Groom found some partners. Arthur departed certain that he had delivered the biggest surprise of the night. But that was still to come.
Groom was able to recruit one affiliate in the form of Big Daddy Moore, who had just been cheated out of becoming the first BPPW Champion by a crooked referee. Groom was content to go at it 2-on-1, but was as shocked as anyone when Bulls On Parade blared through the sound system and Schmitt appeared, with Arthur pleading behind him. During the earlier match, Arthur repeatedly stated that the money for the services of Bull would arrive on Tuesday. Perhaps that was a factor. Perhaps it was nostalgia setting in. Or perhaps it was just the right thing to do. In any case, Schmitt rescinded the services of Arthur and joined his fellow OPW alumni for a 6-man tag. It was exactly what Groom needed, as his team went on to be victorious after a diving headbutt onto one of the masked Asians.
Bull disproved one of the assertions of the wrestling world by showing that friendship counted for more than money. Hopefully Schmitt can be counted on to help out again when needed.
