70s Star And Booker Buck Robley Passes Away

Posted: May 28th 2013 By: CMBurnham

We don't have details but Phil Buckley, better known as Buck Robley, passed away this morning.

Buckley had been suffering from cancer. He was a journeyman wrestler who made it big with his mouth in West Texas. He was lauded as very creative, but didn't have a lot of staying power as a booker.

His main claim to fame was being the booker in Mid South Wrestling during the rise of The Freebirds and Junkyard Dog, including booking the angle and New Orleans Superdome show with JYD vs. Michael Hayes that drew 28,000 fans. He worked on top as a cult babyface in that era. Because he didn't have a good physique, he wrestled in a T-shirt that read, "Nobody calls me yellow."
