WWE Elimination Chamber 2013: Is Jack Swagger Ready to Main Event
Posted: Feb 19th 2013 By: mikeiles
As seen on the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, Jack Swagger won the match to become the No. 1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. Admittedly, the match was one of the best chamber matches in the history of the series. Wasn't too short; wasn't too long; timeliness of eliminations and the order of superstars were appropriate.
I must be honest, though. I am not in favor of the decision of Jack Swagger winning the match.
Dolph Ziggler is starting to become more and more irrelevant (he doesn't deserve that), and I have no idea why he has not cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase. Even if it was predicted, Chris Jericho winning the Elimination Chamber and rekindling his feud with Ziggler (who is now WHC as a result of cashing in his case) would have been a much better decision.
Swagger winning the match and starting a feud with Alberto Del Rio does not exude WrestleMania's main event to me in the slightest. Maybe this could work for a minor pay-per-view, but not for the biggest event of the year.
The latest attempt to push Swagger absolutely bombed, and although Zeb Colter is a good addition to Swagger's character, there is still some time that should elapse before we see him in the main-event picture again. The current build is decent, but we now should see a forced Swagger push for the second time. Give it more time, and it will work.
The excitement of WrestleMania should always be at a fever pitch leading to the event. However, as far as the World Heavyweight Championship picture goes, the pitch is a bit subpar.
Even if we knew that Ziggler was going to go over Jericho at WrestleMania to retain the World Heavyweight Championship, that match would have been far more entertaining. Both ADR and Swagger are good wrestlers, but we cannot afford a hit-or-miss feud at this point.
