Jack Swagger: Why the Real American Will Soon Face Alberto Del Rio for the Title

Jack Swagger doesn't have a new gimmick; instead, his current gimmick is simply an evolution of his "All-American American" persona.

Jack Swagger, prior to taking time off television, had a very bleak future. He was in a tag team with current Money in the Bank briefcase holder Dolph Ziggler.

Being paired up with such a promising talent was not the best move for Swagger, as he was slowly pushed aside in order to give Ziggler more of the spotlight.

In fact, the tag team never had an official ending.

But now, Swagger is back from his self-imposed break. His entrance was surprisingly similar to his previous one. It almost seemed like WWE creative was going to continue the same exact persona.

Fortunately, that did not happen as evidenced by Swagger?s match this past Monday night on Raw. Rather than entering the ring solo, he was accompanied by Zeb Coulter.

Coulter then did a quick promo on behalf of Swagger and dubbed him the real American, which sounds like a tongue-in-cheek reference to Hulk Hogan. More importantly, it progressed the Swagger character. Coulter explained how the America he once saw changed, and that he and Swagger were going to uphold the true values of America.

And it is because of that statement that Swagger is being teased to face World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio at some point leading up to WrestleMania.

The dynamic between the Mexican aristocrat Del Rio and the zealot Swagger is a perfect combination reminiscent of the days of yore?but with a PG twist.

Usually the jingoistic heel would be a foreign superstar. It is as if Hulk Hogan and the Iron Sheik switched roles in the '80s.

Swagger is currently void of a storyline, but he is in the Elimination Chamber match for the No. 1 contender spot. Chances are, Swagger will play a crucial role in Sunday?s pay-per-view match.

If Del Rio is able to walk away with the World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber, then it may be a safe bet that a Swagger/Del Rio feud is on the horizon.
