The 2012 Oklafan Top 50 Is Announced

Once again, the staff at Oklafan has compiled our list of who we believe to be the top 50 wrestlers in the state of Oklahoma this year. We took into consideration factors such as visibility (how many places they wrestled in the state), accomplishments (title reigns, win/loss records, etc.), appearance (proper wrestling gear, physical fitness) and charisma among other things. Then our crack staff compiled their lists and those lists were averaged together to create the official one. So, as the first official act of 2013 on this site, we are proud to announce the Oklafan Top 50 for 2012. The number in parentheses beside the name is where they were ranked last year. If they were unranked last year it is listed as NL.

This is the 8th consecutive year that we at Oklafan have named our Top 50 of the year. Here are some fun facts about the Top 50:

-Voters: Only C. M. Burnham and Mike Iles have voted in every year of the Top 50. Other voters have included Mark Wilson, Stevie Caballero, Tim Rockwell, Cade Sydal, Mitch Baxter, and Sara Bennett.

-A total of 157 wrestlers have appeared in at least 1 of Top 50s.

-Only four wrestlers have appeared on every Top 50 list since it began in 2005: Aaron Neil, The Canadian Red Devil, Tim Rockwell, and Ignition. Michael Barry and 3rd Rail appeared in the Top 50 from 2005 through 2011, but did not make the list this year.

-Voted #1: In the 8 years we have done the Top 50, 6 different wrestlers have held the #1 spot. There have only been 2 wrestlers to be voted #1 twice, and both did it in consecutive years: Dane Griffin in 2008 and 2009 and Double D in 2011 and 2012.

-Unanimous #1: John O'Malley holds the distinction of being voted #1 in the very first Top 50 in 2005 and is the only unanimous #1 in the history of voting.

-Rocco Valentino is the only wrestler to be ranked #1 in the first and only time he was ranked in any Top 50.

-Four females have ranked in the Top 50. The highest ranked ever is Lily McKenzie at #37 in 2006. Erica is the only female to be ranked in two different years, #41 in 2010 and #49 in 2012.

-The longest gap between rankings belongs to The Mercenary who was ranked #30 in 2006 (as Pork Chop) and reappeared 6 years later in 2012 at #39.

-It is almost a guarantee that someone will complain to either C. M. Burnham and/or Mike Iles about the list and will give their opinion on where they (or their friends) should be ranked and why the person ranked above them doesn't deserve the rank they got.
