Update on Mick Foley's Wrestling Career in WWE

When hardcore legend Mick Foley made his return to the company last month, he immediately clashed with champion CM Punk in a series of scathing verbal arguments. The newly turned Punk, egged on by evil manager Paul Heyman, is systemically disrespecting every single WWE legend he can find. That led to speculation from some that a match between the two would take place at some point.

Indeed, F4Wonline (via Wrestling Inc) noted recently that there has been some internal talk of Foley taking on Punk at WWE's upcoming Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view.

In this week's (subscribers-only) Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer offers an update on the chances of Foley stepping into a WWE ring for a future match, noting that it probably won't happen due to the star's depleted physical condition:

Regarding rumors of Foley wrestling, his career is considered over for the obvious reasons when you see how much trouble he has getting around. I remember when he had the match on TNA television with Flair and he got a concussion I believe and told me if that was the last match of his career he could be happy.

Interestingly, earlier this week, the 47-year-old Foley admitted as much himself on his official Twitter account. Addressing the TLC stories, he wrote, "Regarding that rumor about me wrestling @CMPunk : I might if I could, but I can't, so I won't."

While many may like the idea of a proper Foley/CM Punk feud culminating in a grudge match on pay-per-view, considering Foley's physical condition, it would almost certainly be an unwise idea. And not just for the sake of Foley's health either; it is also questionable whether he could give an acceptable wrestling performance in any potential match.

He is currently working as a WWE goodwill ambassador (per the company's official YouTube channel). He recently toured a school with The Miz, Natalya and others as part of the WWE's new campaign to promote literacy. He looks to have found a role he can be fully comfortable in as he settles into his post-wrestling retirement.
