Nothing Settled! Sanchez, Kyzer Both Still Claim To Be The Best
Posted: Sep 20th 2012 By: CMBurnham
The lure of championship gold often brings out the most egotistical aspects of individuals.
By his own nature, SWCW Champion David Kyzer is an egotist. Since turning his back on the fans and his own X-Rated tag team partner, SWCW All-American Champion Kevin James Sanchez, Kyzer has gone on to associate with the Franchise Players and Stevie Caballero. He takes great pride in being able to say that he became SWCW Champion by forcing former champion Maniac Mike to submit the title away.
But Sanchez is also an egotist. When he defeated John E. Stone for the SWCW All-American Title, he laid claim to the one title that he had never been able to grasp in SWCW. And even though it's not thought of as the "top title" in the company, Sanchez still believes that it makes him the best wrestler in the federeation.
What happens when these two individuals meet? That question was answered 3 times over the past 2 months and in the end, nothing was proven and both men still think they're the best.
On July 21st, just a week after both men captured their respective belts, Sanchez & Kyzer were signed to a match with Kyzer's title on the line after Kyzer slammed his championship belt up against Sanchez's head. This champion-vs-champion confrontation was an absolute classic, marred only be the presence of the then-leader of the Franchise Players, L. J. McDaniels. After lots of close calls and 2-counts, Sanchez hits a TKO and puts him in the Crossface submission hold. But while McDaniels distracted the referee, Austin Tacious, who has his own issues with Sanchez, came down and hit Sanchez with a steel chair, knocking him out and allowing Kyzer to get the pinfall and the win. Kyzer was elated and again, the ego overwhelmed things. Feeling that he could pull off a victory with no problem again, Kyzer publicly challenged Sanchez to a rematch. Only this time, Sanchez's All-American title would be on the line.
It took almost one month for that match to happen, but on August 18th, Kyzer and Sanchez would face each other again. This time, things would be different from the get-go, as the Franchise Players opened the show by announcing that they had fired L. J. McDaniels and introduced Stevie Caballero as their new manager. The one thing that wasn't different was the quality of the match as, like the previous one, it was outstanding. Both men worked over each others' legs, trading Figure-four leglocks in an effort to cripple each other. And just like the previous match, Austin Tacious would be a deciding factor as he ran down during the match again. But this time, when he swung at Sanchez, KJ ducked. Security quickly intervened and escorted Tacious out of the arena as KJ went for a cover on the stunned Kyzer, but could only get a two-count. Sanchez then put together a combination of a Spinebuster and a Ring Rat Kick for the win. With both men tied at one match apiece and with their egos almost bursting, Kyzer challenged Sanchez to one final match. Title vs. Title. Sanchez agreed and SWCW Commissioner Chris Kuhn put the final touch on it by making it a No DQ match.
Fans believed that match would occur on August 25, but that didn't happen as Sanchez faced Austin Tacious. It was almost a replay of all the issues Sanchez had been having with Tacious, just with the players mixed. This time, Kyzer ran to the ring with the chair and hit Sanchez, causing the DQ. That came after Sanchez had connected with the Ring Rat Kick. Kyzer then helped Tacious to his feet, only to clobber him with the chair as well. Looking at the fallen bodies in front of him, Kyzer decided to change things up, switching the No DQ clause to Last Man Standing. He then proceded to make his point clear by swinging the chair at Sanchez's knee repeatedly, causing some damage in the ligaments and tendons there.
Sanchez only had two months to heal up and both men put everything on the line -- titles and pride included -- on September 8th. Being as familiar with each other as they are, both men tried to pull out all the stops in their match, but to no avail. As each man had the other down and waited on the referee to make the count, somehow that man clawed his way back up. And then, an amazing coincidence saw both men hit a massive move on each other....AT THE SAME TIME!! Kyzer and Sanchez lay prone on the mat and the referee counted. Sanchez struggled to use the ropes to pull himself up, but it didn't work. The referee reached 10 and the match was over. Both men were counted down. There was no winner. And both men left with the title belts they came in with.
An unsatisfactory ending for all involved, both the fans AND the wrestlers. But it didn't last for long as the Franchise Players made their way to the ring and began to assault Kevin James Sanchez, who lay in a near helpless state. His best friend, Kareem Sadat made his way to the ring, accompanied by the returning L. J. McDaniels, who had earlier made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with his former faction again. And then, in an even bigger surprise, Striker came down to the ring. It appeared that this would turn into a 5-on-3 situation, but Striker began unloading blows on the Franchise Players and quickly an impromptu 8-man tag team match was called by Commissioner Kuhn.
While Sanchez's team won that particular encounter, it's telling that Kyzer left with both title belts, indicating that perhaps this issue still isn't settled between them. Perhaps the next step will be revealed this Saturday at the SWCW event. Both men love being champion. What lengths are they willing to go to to preserve that status?
