Jake the Snake Roberts Talks WWE & Personal Demons in Ring Rust Radio Exclusive

Posted: Sep 8th 2012 By: mikeiles

There are few times in a journalist?s career when they have to hold back their joy when speaking with someone famous, but that is exactly what the boys of Ring Rust Radio faced when speaking with former WWE star and wrestling legend Jake ?The Snake? Roberts.

Roberts is one of the greatest bad guys?"heels" as they are called in the wrestling business?the WWE Universe has ever seen, and his legendary feuds with some of the biggest names in the sport have him pegged as one of the most famous superstars that ever lived.

With all of that success came great struggles for the wrestling star, though; many of which have been well documented over the last several years.
After cleaning up his act and returning to sobriety, Roberts has rebuilt his life and is now working on a book to tell his side of the story, something sure to be a must-read as soon as it hits bookstores everywhere.

That?s one of the reasons Roberts decided to give this exclusive interview to Ring Rust Radio.

With Roberts more than willing to talk about anything asked, Ring Rust Radio started with the conversation about CM Punk?s heel turn, his own legendary heel moments and what it took to be the kind of evil genius that he portrayed in the ring.

Roberts was always well known for his in-ring psychology and his ability to not only portray himself as the bad guy, but get himself over while still having the live crowds enraged at him.

Jake ?The Snake? was always great at getting a crowd reaction; just ask the people that saw Roberts allow his de-venomized cobra to bite ?Macho Man? Randy Savage?s arm in the middle of the ring.

Another topic of conversation was the talk about the DDT. Roberts is widely recognized as the innovator of that move and delves into some of the best spots in which he used it?most notably on Hulk Hogan and Richie Steamboat. The WWE legend also talks about how younger stars using the move as anything but a finisher doesn?t devalue the effectiveness of the finisher; it devalues their work.

After talking about the wrestling business for awhile, the topics turned a bit darker as Roberts opened up to the boys of Ring Rust Radio about his checkered past and how he is doing today.

From years of abusing drugs and his own body, Roberts was at the top of the wrestling business and fell to rock bottom, but has found his way back into the light of salvation. Years of fighting the same demons that he faced as a young man has worn on Roberts, but he sounds like a changed man.

With the help of Diamond Dallas Page?s Yoga system?also a friend of the show?and plenty of help from his friends and family, Roberts is now living his life the best way he can and living it with something he missed for much of his life: happiness.

From start to finish, Ring Rust Radio?s interview with Jake ?The Snake? Roberts was absolutely, unbelievably, totally amazing. It was the willingness to talk about every life struggle he has faced that truly set him apart.

Roberts has moved onto the next portion of his life, but he knows how great the wrestling business was and how great it can be someday again.

If there were another star that has the physiological prowess?maybe CM Punk?the wrestling business would be better with another Jake ?The Snake? Roberts-esque star.
