MSWA Oklahoma Champion Earns His Acclaim On His Own Rules

MSWA Oklahoma Champion Earns His Acclaim On His Own Rules

Posted: Aug 25th 2012 By: CMBurnham

It's been a while since the MSWA fans could say that they were happy with the actions of MSWA Oklahoma Champion Cody Jones.

When he broke into the business, being the son of the legendary Tom Jones was enough to endear him to the attendees. But over time, Jones appeared to grow weary of the support, becoming more self-involved and arrogant. He even went so far as to publicly berate his father at a birthday celebration at an MSWA event.

Jones left Oklahoma a few years ago and relocated to Amarillo, TX where he continued his career. But he would make sporadic appearances and nothing really seemed to have changed for the man who now liked to refer to himself as "The Artist".

But there were two things that Jones took pride in always being able to say: he did things on his own, without any large group of people surrounding him, and he earned everything he got. These were characteristics taught to him by his father and formed the cornerstone of much of his career.

So, when the newly christened BYEW Entertainment Champion "Brutal" Bob Anderson came out to address the crowd at the beginning of the MSWA event this past Sunday, Jones sat in the back and was appalled as Anderson ran down his former tag team partner Crossfire Morrison. After hearing Anderson refer to Morrison as "baggage", Jones came to the ring, along with Starr, to confront the upstart. Jones reiterated the idea that he earned everything he had and Anderson challenged him for his title. Jones agreed and the match was on. It was a hardfought match with both sides having control at various times. But Jones showed why he was the Oklahoma champion by getting the pin in this highly competitive match.

And then the real story began.

After gaining his victory, Jones was still celebrating when MSWA commissioner Erica came to the ring, followed shortly by Impact, Inc. Erica said that they had watched the match and were very impressed with what Jones showed. In accordance, they wished to offer Jones membership in Impact, Inc. The fans immediately burst into loud chants of "No!" After considering it for a few minutes, Jones said that he agreed that Impact, Inc. looked very powerful and cool. He also commented on the "horrible make-up job" of Erica's, but quickly "corrected" himself to say "our beautiful commissioner". His ultimate decision lay in the FACT that MSWA runs through his veins, so his answer to the faction was "NO!".

The fans erupted in cheers, but that didn't last long as Johnny Z & the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions Jordan Jacobs & Jermaine Johnson all attacked Jones in a 3-on-1 beating. Starr even tried to sacrifice her own body by covering Jones, but she was dragged off of him so the beating could continue.

Ultimately Jones was left laying in the ring, perhaps as a message to others that Impact, Inc. was not someone to try and deal with alone. Jones will recover, though. And his newly returned support from the fans will make certain that, while he may stand by himself in the ring, he is never truly alone at MSWA.
