WWE News: Potential Hall of Fame Candidates for 2013
Posted: Aug 17th 2012 By: mikeiles
We are only a few months away from saying goodbye to 2012 and ringing in 2013.
I know, it sounds a bit ridiculous to be thinking about the new year in August.
However, when you work for a company whose survival is based on live events, it's really not that far-fetched.
According to WrestleZone.com, the WWE is gearing up for its annual Hall of Fame ceremony and have been tossing around a few names.
The article states:
Initially, WWE wanted it to take place in New Jersey where the rest of WrestleMania weekend activities will be. However, there was said to be some issues with having it in New Jersey which ultimately had WWE decide to bring the event to MSG.
Rumored names in the conversation of who will be inducted are Mick Foley, Kevin Nash and Bob Backlund.
There have been talks about The Ultimate Warrior getting inducted. There are those who know Warrior who feel he would agree to do the induction but of course there is a certain level of risk in working with him. There is a fear of doing business with him as he has a reputation of being difficult. Some in WWE management are nervous of Warrior agreeing to do the induction and then later backing out.
To me, Backlund and Foley make complete sense.
However, Nash really should be inducted solely as a member of the nWo. Yes, he had a successful career, but he never truly had the it factor that many main-eventers have.
Ultimately, the WWE still has plenty of time to get things in order, as they have a myriad of options to choose from. Let's face it, there are several stars whose careers over-shadowed Nash's and should be considered before you even begin looking to Nash.
In the end, Backlund, Foley and Nash are not big enough names to add the much needed pop to the event. Overall, if the WWE can work it out with Bruno Sammartino, and come to terms with Randy Savage and Owen Hart's families, they would have the foundation for building up a huge 2013 ceremony.
I guess we will have to see how things pan out in the coming months. Until then, who do you feel has been overlooked by Vince and Co.?
