What WWE Legend Was Supposed to Take Bruce Willis' Role in Upcoming GI Joe Movie
Posted: Aug 5th 2012 By: mikeiles
Former WWE Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter, long before The Rock, was the first WWE Superstar to cross over to movies and portray a character in a GI Joe franchise film.
Years later, it was revealed to me in a video interview conducted in Toronto on Wednesday, August 1, that Sarge almost made the cut in the upcoming 2013 GI Joe film release.
"My sources told me that the character that Bruce Willis (General Joseph Colton) is playing was supposed to be me, but they couldn't use (the) Sgt. Slaughter (character). The Rock, who plays Roadblock, goes out and gets someone to help him, and it was supposed to be Sgt. Slaughter. That kind of hurt a little bit."
Sarge also reveals in the interview that he was in talks to appear in the second GI Joe movie. However, due to a conflict of interest involving merchandising, he was unable to do so.
Slaughter, born Robert Remus, is currently an official Ambassador of WWE, attending sporting and charity events on behalf of the organization.
In the video interview, Slaughter also gives high praise to WWE superstar Santino Marella and discusses facets of his career, including how close he came to rejecting the idea of portraying an Iraqi sympathizer, as well as an idea to burn the American flag during a WWE segment, which he rejected.
