An Awesome Epiphany!

An Awesome Epiphany!

Posted: Jun 9th 2012 By: CMBurnham

Robbie Awesome was the poster child of so much that was wrong in SRPW. He was arrogant. He was obnoxious. He abused his power as commissioner to further his issue with SRPW United States Champion Kyle Everlast.

But to be honest, what else would you expect from someone who has been mentored by Ray Martinez? While they haven't been in many matches together, it's no secret that behind the scenes, Ray and Robbie are close personal friends.

That may not be the case anymore.

Kyle Everlast defeated Awesome in a Last Man Standing match on March 31st, costing Awesome his SRPW commissionership. It seems to have been the wake-up call that the young man has needed for quite a while. He returned to Tulsa on June 2 a changed man and that was obvious from the beginning as he entered for his tag team contest with Martinez against Bobby Burns & Shane Cortez.

Martinez was certainly not impressed with the change of heart from Awesome and made that clear from the beginning, but the pair did seem to be able cooperate for a short time. However at one point, Martinez refused to tag his partner and that seems to be when the change set in. Although the match continued for quite a while after that, Awesome didn't seem able to trust his partner and the tag team contest essentially became 3-on-1 with Robbie not having anyone to rely on. At one point, Martinez had Cortez held for Awesome to do a double-team maneuver on and Ray shouted repeatedly at a hesitant Robbie "Do the move!!", but Awesome refused. Burns then locked Martinez into a full-nelson and Awesome had the chance to get some quick revenge for everything that Martinez had done during the match, but Robbie waived Burns off. When Burns let go, Martinez verbally assaulted Awesome again, calling him weak and pathetic and finally it was too much, so Awesome gave Martinez a leaping reverse stunner and "The XXX-ican" found himself pinned in the middle of the ring.

Awesome celebrated with his new-found associates after the match and later spoke with this reporter, saying that he'd had an "epiphany" after losing control of the company. He said it was time to start doing things the right way and he intimated that he still had some issues to resolve with Martinez.
