Posted: Jan 21st 2007 By: CMBurnham
Here are some of the highlights from this past week's interview conducted by Brett Buchanan, The Sanman, Sanford Gomph, and Johnny Thunder :
Former UWF Tag-Team Champion and 1980 Rookie of the Year, Terry "Red Rooster" Taylor, was the special guest on the January 18, 2007, edition of Barbaric Wrestling Radio. Barbaric Wrestling Radio can be heard every week on BWROnline.net.
Here are some of the highlights from the interview, which was conducted by "The Smarter Child"; Brett Buchanan, "The Beez Neez"; The Sandman, "The Perverted Diablo"; Sanford Gomph, and Johnny "Bow Down To The" Thunder, provided by Barbaric Wrestling Radio listener, ChristianCage94 (aka PWUSandman41)!
BWR returns from their commercial break with "The Smarter Child" Brett Buchanan introducing Terry Taylor and thanking him for coming on the show. Terry thanks the BWR crew for having him on and they joke about the Red Rooster gimmick for a while. Brett asks "do the red rooster jokes get on your nerves or are you fine with them?" Terry says "after sixteen years I better get used to it".
After a few minutes of joking around, Brett moves into asking some questions. The first question is "What did you think of Jeremy Borash's "Jackass" with the X-Division storyline?" Terry says that they were going to do something with the "Jackass" people but then they decided to go on to the WWE and do an angle with them instead. Brett asks him what he thought of the storyline, ending up with Chris Sabin turning heel after the crowd basically "turned on him". Terry says that he thought that he didn't understand it, and some of it was funny and TNA tried to develop characters with the guys but TNA never explained why they were doing that stuff and they never explained that so it made no sense. Brett asks, "What are your opinions of Jeremy Borash and the work he does in TNA?" Terry says "he is a very hard working guy, he does a lot of the video packages, before we hired people he did them all, before we would do a show Wednesday night or Thursday, he would have stayed up all night editing all the packages". The hosts agree with him and move on.
Brett asks Terry about Monty Brown debuting on WWE's show on Sci-Fi show under the name Marquis Cor Von. Terry says that Monty was a great guy and just wanted to try the WWE and chose to go up there and hopes that he does very well up there. Brett asks if TNA dropped the ball with Monty Brown, Terry said that he was a hot talent and that TNA didn't showcase him the way the fans wanted and maybe they made a mistake, and that it is not known weather Monty could have even carried the ball in TNA or carried the NWA World Championship.
The Sanman jumps into the interview with a few of the fan questions. The first question comes from Peter "Humankiller99" Gilmour, he asks "what the hell is with the Red Rooster gimmick?". Terry Taylor replies, "In 1988 I went to the WWE as Terry Taylor, there were Hulks, there were Giants, there were Warriors, there were Kings, Hillbillies, and to just be Terry Taylor, Vince McMahon in that era with characters and gimmicks and cartoons and all that, thought that he needed to put a gimmick on me." He adds that he didn't understand it after nine years of wresting in the Universal Wrestling Federation and the independents where there was a more "serious side" to the wrestling. He then says that it has been six-teen years since the Red Rooster gimmick and people still ask him about it so possibly Vince did something right and marketed him right because people still ask about it.
JD73 asks, "You've been everywhere and seen pretty much everything, who are some guys you think had the ability to make big money and main event, but never got a shot?" Terry says "Monty Brown, it could be somebody like Ricky Morton who had a good run but could he have done better? Don't know." Terry adds that he has wrestled for many years so there is a long list of guys who could have possibly done better.
Sanford asks him a non-wrestling question, "what is some of your favorite music?" Terry says that he likes old school stuff, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush, and a lot of classic rock. The hosts agree and say that he has "good taste in music." Sanford claims his favorite band is Creed. Sanford throws in one more non-wrestling question and asks, "What are some of your favorite movies?" Terry says he likes stuff like "For The Love of the Game" which is a Kevin Costner baseball film, and he also said that he likes comedies and sports films. Brett asks Sanford what some of his favorite movies are. Gomph says that he likes Bambi.
Terry is asked about Kevin Federline being in the WWE and Terry says that it tells you about the state of WWE when you have to bring in the most hated guy to draw. He says that if they create their own stars then they won't have to do stuff like that. He is then asked about Rosie O'Donnell vs. Donald Trump and he says that anything that is on TV can be a parody if it is done right and if its funny but WWE didn't do it right and it didn't get over.
We move on to the Voodoo Kin Mafia vs. Vincent K. McMahon feud and Terry is asked about the fans showing up at the Alamo. Terry says that VKM did show up but at a different time, and that TNA should have been there when the fans were there. He says that the angle sparked interest in the product again. Sanman asks some more fan questions; the next question is from deadfred821, he asks, "How do you feel about actors, singers (other entertainers) venturing into the professional wrestling arena?" Terry says it's amazing how many people are fans and a lot of stars that are real rich and famous, do enjoy watching wrestling. He says that it's gratifying that they like it and understand what it is and want to get involved.
Another question from JD73, "I've read a couple of times that you were behind the idea of the great cruiserweight division in WCW, but I've also heard Eric Bischoff take personal glorification for the idea, what are your thoughts on Bischoff and his comments?" Terry says that it was his idea, and that the smaller guys were just losing to big guys so he created this division. He adds that he and Eric had a personality conflict and that is why he quit but then but they decided to work together and that is why he came back. He says, "Life's too short" so there is no point in arguing with someone.
The hosts move on to his thoughts on TNA traveling and Terry says that hopefully by the end of the year they will tour by four days a month. He is asked when he sees TNA stop taping iMPACT! in Orlando and he says probably not until the end of the year. He says that he doesn't think that TNA will ever get up to WWE's level but they could be a great #2 product.
Terry and the rest of the BWR hosts talked about Vince Russo coming back and booking TNA and then they talked about "hot-shoting" Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe. Terry says its easy for someone to criticize the decisions but there is really no point to it if you can't come up with something better to replace that.
Brett asked Terry about the "ECW mole" and Tod Gordon calling him, Terry said Tod was the mole and he was going to bring nineteen ECW wrestlers including himself to come up to World Championship Wrestling. Terry says that he told Tod that if they were going to come to WCW that they should do it up front and have Paul Heyman approve of it.
Terry was asked a few more stupid fan questions regarding what his favorite wrestling match has been, his favorite road stories where he tells a funny story about Owen Hart and Jim Duggan in a hotel, and also a story about Curt Henning smoking in a hotel which was on fire, Andre the Giant's drinking habits, and a lot more.
