TNA: Was This the Last Match of Sting's Impact Wrestling Career?

For everything the Victory Road PPV was, the ending to the Bobby Roode/Sting match left an awful taste in my mouth.

How can a night that sees a new Television Champion and great matches be tarnished by the ending where the owner of TNA, Dixie Carter, gets involved in trying to save Sting from further injury.

I find it hard to see this, with everything that has gone on so far with TNA, for a PPV to be tarnished by a poorly written ending. Come on, guys. You are better than that. And all the while, Sting held his end of the bargain by showing that, at 52 years old, he still has the ability to be on point.

At one point, I thought I was watching Arn Anderson and Sting from the early 1990s. It was good. It had a little Ric Flair in it. It had a little old-school Sting in it. It had some major chemistry.

Wrestling like that isn't work. Bobby Roode has proven to be one of the best heels in TNA in a long time. He has a way of making everyone hate him and uses some of the old-school Ric Flair tactics in his matches (multiple disqualifications, having others help him win, challenging the referees). It is a beautiful marriage of a man and the past.

Now we wait and see what happens with TNA's general manager, the Icon, Sting. There isn't much he hasn't done. Personally, I am a fan, but more of the man who had white hair, a flat top, wore scorpion tights and was bigger and stronger.

At 52 years old, there isn't much he hasn't done. But now he needs to do the most important thing in his career. Although I am a huge fan, it is my sincere hope he will leave this match with Bobby Roode at Victory Road and call it a career.

While the idea of Roode and Sting battling connects the past to the present, many of us are not a fan of the character changes. We are not fans of the changing face paint, the fact he is not as mobile as he used to be. And we want the old Sting back.

That can never happen.

Matches where a wrestler can turn back the clock are pretty special. But they are highly unlikely. Now that Sting has shown he can do it, it is not likely to happen again for a while. Until then, we will feel cheated.

Maybe not seeing it happen is better; there is not as much disappointment that way. Now we can only hope he leaves in the sunset and allows us to enjoy things the way they were.

Anything else would be upsetting.
