Smashlahoma to feature pro wrestling legends
Posted: Feb 24th 2012 By: mikeiles
MIAMI, Okla. ? The Mid-States Wrestling league will make a debut featuring two legends of professional wrestling.
Hacksaw Butch Reed, a veteran of WWE and WCW leagues, and Beautiful Bobby Eaton will be two featured wrestlers during Smashlahoma 2012, to be held Saturday at the Miami Civic Center.
?This is a homecoming for (Reed),? said spokesperson and wrestler Space Cowboy Jason Jones. ?He went to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and was an All-American football player.?
Eaton held tag-team championships with several different wrestlers, Jones said. And Reed wrestled for Vince McMahon back in days when the WWE was known as the WWF and Hulk Hogan was the champ.
Other wrestlers on the card include:
~ Current IWIC champion Darling Dustin Heritage, who will defend his title.
~ Mr. Saturday Night Michael Barry, who Jones said is one of the top talents in the area.
?I first met him about nine years ago when he broke in,? Jones said. ?He?s absolutely come full circle. He?ll be in a really good match.?
~ Tim Rockwell and Cast-Iron Cothern as the Spinebusters, the current Southern Tag Team Champions.
The main event is a 10-man battle royale, Jones said.
The event is being held in an effort to book more events at the Miami Civic Center, Jones said. Miami is pushing an effort to host more events throughout town at all of its facilities, including the civic center and fairgrounds, said Jill Fitzgibbon, public relations director for the city.
?We know that Miami is a destination for other types of events,? Fitzgibbon said. ?So we want to bring those guests inside the city itself, and show them what we have to offer.?
The city is working with Miami Main Street to host a car cruise on June 23.
Jones said Smashlahoma will be an evening of family-friendly wrestling entertainment. It won?t feature any profanity or extreme, grisly situations and will be an all-ages show.

Smashlahoma will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Miami Civic Center, located at 129 5th Ave. NW. Tickets: $10.
